Wrapping up another premiere week, we are joining forces with the great singer-songwriter for the release of his dreamy new single “Let’s Go Back.”
About the song, Rico comments:
“I wrote ‘Let’s Go Back’after having a series of dreams in which I was dropped back into my past. I was taken to a room I used to play in at my grandparents house, looking out over their backyard. In another I was in my old Chicago neighborhood meeting friends at a bar and getting food at a restaurant I loved that had since closed. It’s a song about the inevitability and acceptance of time passing, and how the beautiful moments in our lives can be recalled slowly, with delectable care and love. This song is a departure from my typically more upbeatand poppy styles – languid, meditative, and loving.”
Dan Rico is a Brooklyn based singer and producer. After his debut album “Endless Love” in 2016, he released the follow-up “Dreamy” in 2018and “Basement Pop” in 2019, along with a series of EP’s and singles. A prolific songwriter, Rico jumps seamlessly between genres incorporating collage-like elements of bedroom pop, lo-fi dance music, rock, and electronica. Major influences include Prince, the classic rock pantheon (Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan), Nicolás Jaar, Frank Ocean, and Duke Ellington.
Rico, (Sun/Moon Taurus, Virgo rising) grew up in Chicago, listening fervently to Elvis and Michael Jackson. At age 12 he picked up the bass (the first of many instruments) and began playing in rock and punk bands, stoking his love of classic radio music. This has led to a long and varied career– touring the country in rock bands, to playing jazz standards at gallery openings, or fronting a Prince cover band. In 2014 he began producing records for other bands in Chicago, and in 2015 recorded a concept album each month with his then-band Ego, correlating with the signs of the zodiac. The year he decided to strike out on his own as a solo artist and in 2018 relocated to New York City.
