Hi Kristen, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey Vents Magazine, I have been amazing thanks – so busy! I’ve spent a lot of time between LA and the UK recording and working on material with some amazing producers.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Drunk Love”?
Getting straight into my new song drunk love, I still can’t believe how well my fans have taken to it.. it’s only been on Spotify 2 weeks and has hit over 100,000 streams, it has over 350,000 views on YouTube also! Really happy with it – this is just the beginning.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Nothing in particular inspired me, but as soon as my friend played the beat the first lyrics that came out my mouth where “I wanna get drunk and fall in love” and instantly new that was the vibe.. also who doesn’t want to get drunk and fall in love right?
How was the recording and writing process?
Each time I’m in the studio my talent and writing skills are improving like crazy.. my first single I wrote and released is called “Got A Plan” which had 600,000 streams on Spotify and over 800,000 views on YouTube, that song took me 2 days! Drunk Love was a freestyled song which just seem to work out perfectly and the feedback I’ve had from the fans has been amazing.
With so many eyes looking and listening to your work – do you feel any sort of pressure when putting together a new single or rather the opposite?
Being known as a social media influencer you are automatically thrown into a category of being someone who makes rubbish music and YouTube music, luckily for me I never listen to any opinions but my own and don’t actually put time into something unless I really think it’s going to work out and I’m going to be successful. Also personally I think out of the whole list of social media people that try make music I’m at the top of that list, also helps the fact I write all my own songs myself unlike 99.9% of people out there.
How much of your comedy sneaks into your music?
I try to keep my prank videos and challenges out of my music, it’s a whole different avenue that I don’t feel should mix if you want to be taken seriously in the music game, especially now I have my work cut out already being labelled a YouTuber.
How would you say your background as a social media star helps you walking through the business?
My background of being a large social media influencer helps a lot more than people would imagine. I literally do not care one bit about anybody’s opinion, I also know if you work hard enough and be super consistent and believe in your work and content you will win, you will grow a fan base that loves you and whatever it is you are chasing will happen so going into the music career with that mindset helps a lot. I’m not going to stop.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I’m actually dropping a new song in roughly 4 weeks called “All Alone”, it’s a song which I wrote for people going through bad times in life and feel like they can’t go on anymore. I also filmed a video where I hired a whole video team and actors and acted out multiple scenes that people can relate to finishing with a very powerful message at the end so super excited to drop this. I wrote the track in LA earlier this year.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m going on tour infact in September for 10 shows, 8 in Germany, 1 in Austria and 1 in Switzerland. I’m supporting my good friend Lukas Rieger and each show we are expecting 2000 people and we have got some surprises in store it’s going to be sick.
What else is happening next in Kristen Hanby’s world?
There is a lot more happening in the world of Kristen Hanby, I have a song and music video ready to drop with Soulja Boy, got a few other big colabs ready so fingers crossed it all goes to plan over the next 12 months and I have my own headline tour. I’ve got some festivals lined up too.
