Keep On Calling is our take on house and future bass, combining elements from both genres. Lyrically, the song is about an obnoxious ex who’s constantly calling or harassing the other partner.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Nothing in particular inspired us to write this song lyrically because we both are in happy relationships. In terms of the instrumental, we made it in between weekend 1 and 2 of coachella after attending some epic house performances at the festival. This inspired us to create the funky but fun saw melody within the house tempo.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We probably wont do a full on music video for this song but we’ve been making tons of little promo videos for our social media that are pretty funny. We also launched a contest with the song and the reward is a stay in vegas and vip experience at our next show at Hakkasan! Contest rules here!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process with Olaf was super smooth! Olaf is amazing and is insanely talented vocally so we literally did it in one or two takes. We wanted the song to be simple lyrcially since there was a lot going on in the drop so Olaf helped us take a few words and put an amazing, soulful twist on them.
As your music keeps getting more and more momentum – do you feel any pressure when putting on a new material?
We do feel pressure when releasing and sometimes it can be tough to ignore but we have an amazing fan base who is constantly supporting us as we experiment with different genres. Releasing music is always scary but its also so exciting to finally put out a finished product. At the end of the day its more of a feeling of a relief that the song is finally out rather than feeling pressured into releasing.
Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?
When collaborating with other artists we care way more about their personality than their ability. We always try and chill with the other artist before diving straight into work. It’s important to get to know your collaborators before you get super deep into working with them.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
If in terms of material you mean album or EP we don’t have anything set in stone yet, but we are putting together a little EP that will be out when we feel its fully ready. We’ve been grinding in writing sessions for this project, so we are definitely not going to rush it. But for now, keep jamming out to Keep on Calling and be on the lookout for new remixes and even another single later in the summer!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
No tentative release date for the EP but expect the next single around the beginning of August and a remix in between.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re constantly booking new shows, but you can find us in Vegas at Hakkasan or Omnia each month. We’ll be at Hakkasan with Nghtmre on July 26th then head to Reno the next day for a banger on the 27th!
What else is happening next in Niiko x SWAE’s world?
Up next for us is a lot of production and finishing some of the hundreds of demos we have piled up. Also we’ll be filming more content and engaging with the fans as much as possible. Be on the lookout too for our next wave of merchandise which is coming very soon.
