Hi Marta, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been great, thank you! How are you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Holy Grail”?
Absolutely! It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written and I’ve had the idea for about two years but it never seemed quite finished. That is until, I feel like I found that being an artist – I want to speak and write about things that I am passionate about which is self love, acceptance, diversity, equality and celebrating one’s uniqueness and drive. To me that is the song and that is how you find your Holy Grail.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I would say a couple events did but the one that inspired me the most was.. *gasp* my first real and big music industry let-down and rejection which was.. tough on my self-esteem and brought a total change of mindset for me. It made me have to build myself back up again and re-think why I wanted to be an artist in the first place and what I stand for.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes! I am currently in the process of prepping for the shoot and the video will follow a few weeks after the single release.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was really interesting! Like I said before, the song was something I’d been toying with for two years before but it wasn’t until after I moved to London and started working on some music with Ian Barter that I thought I was ready to finish writing this one and record it. Most of the lyrics were actually written in 10 minutes in the back of an Uber on the M4 on the way to his studio.
Does your fashion background influences your music in any way?
It 100% does! Fashion is one of my biggest passions and when I think music it is always connected to fashion.. what outfit I will wear while singing the song.. what colors do I associate with this emotion.. I think the strongest connection is when I’m shooting a music video or pictures because that’s when I turn into a fashion-obsessed/crazy stylist-musician/Devil wears Prada person.
As your music keeps getting much success – do you feel any pressure as you put together a new material?
Of course! I always feel like I can be better, so better, so I put a lot of pressure on myself because I want to continue to grow as a musician and release the best possible music for the lovely fans who are always making me want to do my best for them.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes.. to let you in on a little secret, a new project is almost done!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Yes.. definitely thinking of Autumn..
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! I love performing out and will be announcing some shows as soon as I can!
What else is happening next in Marta’s world?
I’m currently finishing working on the new music, working on a clothing line and some music-related mobile apps! And enjoying the ride!
