– Hey there! This is Parker, Kelly and Dan from MAMADEAR, and we’re pumped to be hanging with y’all today! Thanks for having us.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Steal Away”? – PARKER
Sometimes life can be a grind and beat you down, so this song came out as a response to those moments in life when you can hop in the car, get out of town, and leave all of your cares behind for a couple of days. Those moments in life are so refreshing and we wanted to capture that feeling in this song. Our producer, Sean Neff, really helped bring that vision to life by adding mandolins, dobros and all of these awesome acoustic instruments which helped drive the song. It comes out on Friday, June 21st so be sure and give it a listen!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? – KELLY
We wrote “Steal Away” with our friend Stephanie Chapman, who is married to Nathan Chapman (an awesome producer in Nashville who co-produced Taylor Swift’s first few albums with her). We were in a place in our life where life and work were really stressful and we were craving those “Steal Away” kind of moments. Those days or weekends when you can escape to a cabin or the beach with the person you love. Maybe it’s even just a long drive down a winding road. Those carefree hair-in-the-wind kind of moments where you get refreshed and remember who you are. We hope this song reminds people of that feeling.
Any plans to release a video for the single? – PARKER
Yes! We are super pumped to release a music video for “Steal Away.” It’s likely going to come out at the end of June/beginning of July. It was the first music video we ever shot so we’re so excited to share it!
How was the recording and writing process? – DAN
The writing process was fun and carefree. We tried not to think about it too much and just follow the vibe of the song and make sure it felt good. It’s always fun when Steph is in the room with us. She’s always down to try stuff. The vocal round that ended up happening in this song happen pretty organically and sort of surprised us all in the room, but it ended up making the whole song.
How much did time serve as an advantage for this new single? – PARKER
I think it’s helped a lot. We released our last project a couple of years ago, and while we knew who we were, we had a hard time portraying that through the production and sound of our songs. This time, we went into the studio and we told ourselves we were just going to be ourselves and make the music that comes most naturally to us. We feel like we were able to do that and are so happy with how it turned out.
What have you learned from your experience opening and sharing the stage some of the biggest name in music? – KELLY
Some of our favorite “pinch-me” kind of moments were getting the chance to open for, and meet artists like Martina McBride, Charlie Daniels, and Seal. We learned so much from them about how to really connect with an audience, how to create an energetic and entertaining performance, and how to be super kind to everyone you meet and work with. These kind of behind-the-scenes learning experiences have been invaluable to us, and we’re incredibly grateful for them.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along? – DAN
Definitely! We plan to put out at least three more songs this year. We are pumped for the world hear them. They are recorded and we couldn’t be more proud of how they turned out. Our goal was to just be completely ourself in the studio and build everything around our harmonies and I feel like we achieved that!
Any tentative release date or title in mind? – PARKER
Nothing definite yet, but we will certainly keep you posted when we nail down a release date for a full project!
Any plans to hit the road? – KELLY
We are opening for Josh Turner in New England in two weeks, which we are so pumped for! We love his music, and we have some great friends and fans in that part of the country that we are excited to see. Then, we are heading to Monte-Carlo in Monaco this summer to perform for four weeks! We will get to open for artists like John Legend, Sting, and Enrique Iglesias. We’re beyond thrilled for that!
What else is happening next in MAMADEAR’s world? – DAN
We’ll keep hitting the pavement pushing these tunes, and chasing the next song. Great songs build great careers so we are always pushing ourselves to be better. We have some exciting irons in the fire that hopefully will really help us grow our audience this year and hopefully you will be seeing a lot more of us really soon!
