Bleeding But Breathing is the latest single from Australian pop band The Lighthearts. Listen here
This deep and meaningful track poetically captures the dark realities of and emotions associated with mental health issues; possessing hard-hitting lyrics and gripping musical hooks. With the deliverance and combination of soaring vocal harmonies, driving rhythms and eloquent lyrics – Bleeding ButBreathing is a captivating strand of pop music.
The Lighthearts’ latest track follows the enormous success from their recent hit single, Love Is Here To Stay, which was streamed all over the nation via commercial and community radio stations such as KIIS FM (Syd/Mel) and RED FM (WA). The band also made their debut on national television (Network 10) with their feel-good song. Like their other material, BleedingBut Breathing was brought to life by industry legend and ARIA-nominated producer Stuart Stuart (Sheppard, The Veronicas), which has ultimately blessed this track to be the smash hit that it conclusively is.
Songwriter and vocalist Jack explains, “Bleeding But Breathing really captures the raw emotion that I felt in my experience with depression. Before I started writing this song, I was in a very dark place. I felt a lot of hate towards myself – the way I looked, sung and wrote. Those emotions were too strong to hold in, so I went to my music room and began to write down how I was feeling. And from that first strum, I felt that pain leave and learned to find strength in the darkness.”
Vocalist Jess adds, “We’re always putting out these joyful songs, which is wonderful, but it felt important to us to share with others that it’s okay not to be okay too. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, especially for those dealing with mental health issues. This song has given us the opportunity to bring something quite vulnerable to the light. If even one person listens to our song and feels less alone or compelled to ask for help as a result, then that’s a powerful thing.”
Vulnerably capturing the dark reality of mental health issues, Bleeding But Breathing is a sonically and lyrically enriching masterpiece that will surely touch listeners everywhere.
