I’ve been well!! I’ve been constantly writing, producing, and playing shows!! It’s been super rad!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Maybe You Will”?
Everything about this song, lyrically, is so personal, yet so relatable. The song is written about wanting someone who simply doesn’t want you back. The feelings brought out of a situation like this can bring so much anxiety, self-doubt, and heartache to an individual. You keep thinking these things to yourself until you get to a point of thinking to yourself that you’re not good enough; that you will never be good enough. Who really knows though? Maybe they will want you back one day. Maybe you, someday, will be good enough. All you can do is want something more when all you should really do is leave. It’s time to leave.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I don’t think that any event specifically inspired this song – the topic is extremely relevant to today. So many of us feel like we’re not good enough… for others and/or even for ourselves. When in reality, it doesn’t even freaking matter. All that matters is that you stay true to who you are. There’s no reason to wait around for someone to see you for who you are; if they don’t, then they don’t. Not everyone is going to like you. I get it though – it is sometimes really difficult to face reality as it is. Maybe that’s where the song came from.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There is DEFINITELY a video coming 🙂
How was the recording and writing process?
Writing this song was kind of complicated because I wanted to keep it as vague as possible, but I also wanted it to be as direct as possible, allowing others to fill in the gaps for themselves. In the end, I learned that simplicity works!! This was probably the easiest song I’ve ever tracked. I recorded all of it in my home studio, using a minimal amount of gear. Going into recording the song, I knew exactly how I wanted this song to sound. It made all of the tracking very simple. I recorded the entire song in two nights. It was very heartfelt and very quick. I am so happy with how it turned out!
What role does San Francisco play in your music?
San Francisco plays a huge role in my music. There are so many locals bands, friends, and venues in the area that are just so inspiring. I’ve lived in the bay area my entire life and the SF music scene has always seemed so cool to me. I’m very grateful to live so close to this city.
How has John Mayer and Lewis Capaldi influenced your writing?
John Mayer freaking shreds. He was the reason I continued playing guitar at a young age. The first time I heard “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” I was instantly hooked. He’s so good at guitar that listening to him play makes you want to get better.. and then seeing him live is another story. He’s just way too good that you tell yourself “I quit. I’ll never play as good as this guy!” Yet you end up picking the guitar back up the next day. He honestly gives so much motivation to so many musicians. Mayer has heavily influenced my guitar playing, music listening, and songwriting.
Lewis Capaldi’s real, raw, and intimate music/lyrics are super inspiring to me as a writer; He’s writing the sad songs I wish I were good enough to write. And this guy’s voice?! What the heck! Maybe one day I’ll be as good as him.
I’ll always continue looking up to both of these dudes.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I wouldn’t say that releasing a new single necessarily means you can expect new material… However, you definitely can expect new material because I’m saying it right now – We’ve got a lot of radness coming!!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Stay tuned 😉
How much are you hoping to open on this record, especially from a personal and emotional perspective?
I’m typically a pretty open person – if you ask, I’ll answer.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re doing some stuff in SoCal and more… Super soon!!
What else is happening next in Peter Saputo’s world?
We’re currently planning to continue releasing music and are constantly booking more shows. It’s been a journey, but it’s all been so fun and it’s been so amazing getting to meet and connect with so many new people!
