Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Somebody Else”?
“Somebody Else” is a song that explores a vulnerable true story that I encountered this past year.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes. A brief encounter with an ex that convinced me to meet up at a late hour in the night. I had assumed it was to rekindle a flame, but later found out she was still in a relationship but just had gotten wind I was seeing someone else and wanted to see if she still had a hold on me. She didn’t want the relationship back; she just didn’t want me wanting “somebody else.”
How was the recording and writing process?
It was very cathartic. I was in Nashville with my songwriting partners at Demolishing Music Publishing and we spent a week diving into expressing some deep life experience I had encountered last year and putting it into song form.
How has your acting background help and influence your music from a performing perspective and as a whole?
Acting requires me to be very in touch with my emotions and remain open to experiences. Allowing myself to feel things fully definitely plays a huge factor in being comfortable with the vulnerability of writing a song from the heart.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own original material?
When I’m on my own, I just press record and lay everything that’s on my mind down on the piano and completely lose track of time. When collaborating; I am a bit more mindful of time and staying focused on a particular song at a time. It’s definitely more structured and also a beautiful thing when others can share their experience and we can bounce ideas off of one another.
Does the new single mean we can expect more new material? If so, when?
Yes. I have a plethora of songs recorded And will continue to release.
Any plans to hit the road?
That’s the plan. Once I put out what I feel is the completion of the first project I’d love to play the songs live. Touring would be a dream come true.
What else is happening next in Max Ehrich’s world?
I am currently in a Netflix film, WALK. RIDE. RODEO. that also features an original song of mine. The song was written with Demolition Music Publishing and Amberley Snyder, upon whom the film is based, and tells the inspiring story of her facing major adversity and continuing to find the strength to thrive. The song is called “Ride.” I’m also a part of the new Lifetime series, “American Princess,” executive produced by Jenji Kohan and created by Jamie Denbo which is currently airing week to week.
