INTERVIEW: Dina Renee

Hi Dina, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great thanks.  Thank you for having me.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “What I’m Gonna Do“?

It’s a fun upbeat song that is perfect for summer. It’s also about not settling for less than you deserve.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It was actually inspired by my friend who had ended a relationship recently and I wanted to inspire her to not go back. Domestic violence is something I take very seriously as I had a friend who was killed due to domestic violence and I always wanted a song that inspires girls or guys to not go back to an abusive situation and that they are strong enough to make it on their own.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes there will certainly be a music video for this song.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was so easy and just fun. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to plan too much. My co writer and I wrote the song in 45 mins. I had the idea for the concept and we just vibed off of it. My producer always knows exactly how I want things to sound and he really helped me get a sound that was more me on this track. I think it’s definitely the best song I’ve done.

What role does LA play in your music?

You can see the Hollywood sign at the beginning of my music video for “La La La.” Living in Hollywood is something I dreamed of my whole life-I’ve always felt such a connection to this place and I think the style of LA in general is always incorporated into my music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have so many songs I want to release. I will be going more of an EDM route on my next single.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

That’ll be a surprise 😉

What aspect of abuse and relationships will you keep diving into?

I just want to put things out there, be vulnerable, and hopefully inspire people to talk about the things or issues they are afraid to speak on. I think abusive relationships are so hard to get out of because of the manipulation involved. You can’t get out of it on your own; it always takes help from friends or family. I would give anything to have known what my friend who is no longer with us was going through but I had no idea. I want to be there for anyone who is going through this and If music can give me that outlet that might help someone or just to make someone feel something then that’s all I care about.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to do a radio tour or play at festivals.

What else is happening next in Dina Renee’s world?

My single release party/performance will be June 22 at Bar 20 at the Grafton.  I can’t wait to release my song “What I’m Not Gonna Do” for the world to hear.
