In the course of mere 24 hours, Taylor Swift’s new single “You Need To Calm Down” which premiered in the midst of LGBTQ Pride Month bypassed 20 million views on youtube. The music video features numerous LGBT/ LGBG ally celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Porter, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Adam Lambert just to name a few. One of the highlights of the video is the reconciliation of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, marking the end of their notorious feud once and for all. “We hope to become a symbol of redemption and forgiveness”-says Taylor.
The feedback for the song, however, is not definite. The controversial stereotypes used against anti-LGBT protesters have left many Twitter users angry, while some accuse Taylor Swift of exploiting the LGBT community for the sake of self-promotion. Others, however, are delighted to see Taylor promoting equality, anit-discrimination and justice in society.
