Hi C, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi VENTS! Thank you. No complaints here! Another day of making music.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Home To You”?
Home To You is my favorite record to date. The song features my new friend, Desiigner, and its about the feeling you get when you’re away from home, wishing you could be with your lover. I wrote the vocal, and we were in the studio from the daytime til 4am vibin’, working on the record til it was finished. Such an amazing experience.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
For sure. The writing was inspired by a night I had while out on tour. I LOVE playing shows, but some nights I just wish I could be back at home with my girl.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I’ve been working with my team on making a CRAZY video concept. I’m really stoked about how the visualizer turned out that we just dropped on Ultra Music’s youtube channel.
The single comes off your new album Wolf Blue – what’s the story behind the title?
The inspiration for Wolf Blue stems from a camping trip I went on. When I’m making my music, I imagine myself in the forest. The wolf is my spirit animal. I have one tatted on me. Blue has always been the color that gives me peace and serenity, so it felt like the perfect title for this collection of work.
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process was a whirlwind of excitement and a result of an all nighter at the studio. Gazzo (produer) and I were having a session at Ultra’s studio in hollywood, and after he showed me an idea he started with our friend RVNES (producer), I felt so inspired. I jumped in the vocal booth, and the result was the hook for Home To You. Gazzo facetimed Desiigner during the session and showed him what we had just worked on. Desiigner’s facial expression said it all. He said “Send the addy I’ll come to the studio right now”, and we stayed in til 4am til the record felt finished. Such an amazing experience.
What was it like to work with RVNES and GAZZO? How did those relationships develop?
RVNES and Gazzo are both so talented and inspire me so much creatively. My label (Ultra Music) paired Gazzo and me for a writing session because they thought we’d compliment each other musically. Gazzo is close with RVNES, so we all connected on this record. I consider both of them great friends and wonderful people.
How much did they get to influence the album?
Gazzo and I actually have another single on the album in addition to ‘Home To You ft. Desiigner’ that we’re HYPED about. I love to send my unreleased music to people I work with for their advice and input, so Gazzo and RVNES have definitely influenced the work in that way as well.
You also brought some other guests – did you handpick them or how did they come on board?
The album will also feature Lil Aaron, who I absolutely handpicked. Lil Aaron and I wrote Strip Club together, and I’ve always been a fan of Aaron as an artist and person. He’s always been on his own wave and I love that about him. Collaborations have always been a big part of who I am as an artist.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?
I try my best to remain open-minded when collaborating with others. In my opinion the best part about collaborating is combining each other’s strengths to make a product that differs from what you would do on your own. That being said, I always want to stay true to myself and my ways.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
This album is an honest reflection of the best and worst moments of my last year. After signing with Ultra Music, I locked away in studio sessions daily and discovered so much about who I am as an artist. The melodies take inspiration from soulful R&B combined with the forward-thinking electronic music I grew up on. The lyrics are inspired by my thoughts, questions, and experiences with love since moving to Los Angeles.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! I’ll be performing all over the states later on this year after the album drops, but until then I’ll be doing festivals such as We The Fest in Jakarta, Sherbeach Festival in Canada, and a guest performance at Ultra Europe with my friends, Cheat Codes.
What else is happening next in CADE’s world?
I’ve been hard at work at my brand-new live show experience that’s bigger and better than anything I’ve done yet. It includes live performances of all of my music, and the whole show is thought out visually. I can’t wait for everybody to experience the show for themselves. I’m so proud of how its coming together. I’ve also been working on a crazy collab with DVBBS, which will drop soon as well.
