Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Good Love”?
Its a rocker and the title track of our upcoming debut EP!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
No specific event inspired this particular song. I remember going into my room to write a song and came out with Good Love.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’ve released a music / lyric video. The video plays off of our album cover. Its our four mouths coming to life to sing the song and be silly.
How was the recording and writing process?
Oodles of fun! Writing it, I remember going to my room with the intent of writing a bangin song and twenty minutes later I had Good Love. I showed an acoustic cell phone recording of it to Steve (guitar) and he wasn’t totally sold on it, but once we were jamming it with the band it came together. Also the live response to it was great so we thought it was good enough to make the cut.
Recording was a blast. We recorded it at Dream House Studios in Toronto with producer Calvin Hartwick. We did the drums and bass together in a take and then added guitars and went back for vocals. Calvin was a treat to work with, he also mixed the EP!
What role does Toronto play in your music?
Well other than recording in Toronto and having a bar in Toronto to rehearse in, I think just the struggle to live in this city has been influencing our writing a lot lately. It can be a very competitive and unforgiving place to live relative to the rest of Ontario. Its also a very fun city though.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Its all done! We’ve put out 2 singles now and we suspect to put out a couple more before the year ends. We have a 5 song EP ready to go. We’ll likely have some more videos to make for some more songs on this record as well.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The EP is called Good Love. Release date is still undetermined. We plan to stick with releasing singles for now. Although if you email us or see us live you can get access to a limited print, hand numbered, and even signed version of the EP.
What aspect of love and superheroes will you keep exploring on this record?
Well aspects of infidelity, making good love, heartbreak, drunk phone calls, and evening medicines. I think all the superhero stories cover those topics at one point or another.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re sticking to Southern Ontario for the summer with a full calendar of shows! You can always catch us playing somewhere!
What else is happening next in Pink Leather Jackets’ world?
We’ve got a batch of new tunes written, we’ve been performing them and trying them out. We hope to start some pre-production for those tunes very soon to get back into the studio to hopefully have something freshly baked for the new year!
