INTERVIEW: DJ Licious

Hi Licious, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good I have my best summer till date coming up, so you are looking at one happy man.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Naked”?

Well yes, it is my latest release and my first signing to the legendary Polydor UK label!

Amazing to be part of a label with so much legendary artists like Years & Years, Jax Jones, Mabel,  future legends Meduza….  And many many more.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well we all know someone in our lives we always enjoy seeing “Naked” I reckon. So that might have served as inspiration for this track, plus I wrote this last summer so you can really feel that in the instrumental I think.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Well we have a very cool lyric video out on VEVO, if you haven’t checked that one out, now is the time.

How was the recording and writing process?

The initial demo was done quickly although in a later stadium we had to re-record the vocal again because I changed the tempo a lot in the process. Maria who sang this song got ill and struggled with her vocal chords for a long time, but luckily she got better et voila, the result.

After the great reception from your previous single – did you feel any sorta of pressure or rather the opposite?

Every single I feel the same pressure man, you are putting something out there for everyone to judge or to love. It never gets easier, but when they do embrace it, you feel on top of the world.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I have a stack of new tracks ready to go in my studio, we are looking at our planning for the rest of 2019 right now, so expect new stuff soon!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing I can disclose yet 😉 but I am going to release some more club minded tracks again too, and my collab remix  of a Deorro track with legend Benny Benassi just got released on Ultra music.

What’s it like to perform at the main stage in Tomorrowland this summer?

Well I preformed there once before and I must say it is not like anything I’ve ever experienced. The energy that people of Tomorrowland bring to the stage is unrivaled. To see is to believe…

I can’t wait to be up that mainstage a second time!

Speaking of pressure – how did you get to throw that away and gain any sort of confidence as you gear up for this gig?

Instead of many other artists I got to play early slots on big festivals in a very early stage in my career, giving me time to experiment and learn a lot over time on how to interact with crowds and what to play and when. Many of my colleagues get thrown in because they had that one big hit record you know. My career always has been more gradually but steady and I am grateful for that, it gave me time to build that confidence.

What are you looking forward the most?

Mainstage Tomorrowland man, and of course hosting my own “SHOMI” label stage at Tomorrowland too!  I am also playing Ibiza a few times this year, always a treat too. I am just loving life and every gig is actually in the end something I really look forward too, nothing beats the feeling of being able to put smiles on people’s faces with your music.

What else is happening next in DJ Licious’ world?

A lot more music and we are looking into booking some world tours right now, so many exciting things. It’s a great time to be alive.
