Spragga Benz, the Jamaican dancehall icon, dropped a new single, “If Yuh Ready,” featuring UK legend General Levy out now via Easy Star Records/Buttercuts Records/Red Square Productions. The single is from Spragga Benz’s forthcoming album called Chiliagon, due out later in the year. The album project was born from a 2017 visit to London spearheaded by the Buttercuts label leader Andrew Oury. Spragga, renowned for his blistering delivery, razor-sharp rhymes, and impeccably smooth flow, paired up with some of the top vocalists and producers representing UK genres that have Jamaican dancehall roots, including drum & bass, grime, and British hip-hop. Other songs on the album include collaborations with Rodney P, Illaman, Killa P, Hype and Fever, Harry Shotta, Akala, and more UK music giants.
“If Yuh Ready” is just a taste of what’s to come in 2019. Spragga shares his excitement by stating “’If Yuh Ready’ is inspired by a desire to record with someone whom I regard as an icon in UK reggae…General Levy.” The upcoming album Chiliagon will showcase Spragga’s incredible diversity, and show he is truly one of the greats. To quote Stephen Marley, “Spragga Benz is revolutionizing the game.” Spragga concludes, “My music is my medium of expressing the joys and sorrows of life and the hope of a better world.”
“If Yuh Ready” is hot on the heels of Spragga’s last single, “Differ,” which was produced by Toddla T, the revered genre-bending British DJ on BBC Radio 1. Toddla T is a go-to producer for artists such as Artic Monkeys, Skepta, Roots Manuva, and known for producing the platinum hit “Boasty” with Wiley, Stefflon Don, and Sean Paul.
