The End Of America, a depressingly prophetic phrase these days, is also a source of uplifting music in the form of a band– a trio, comprised of James Downes, Trevor Leonard and Brendon Thomas. Pulled together way before the current administration, the three Philadelphia natives found each other back in 2010, quickly developed a strong bond through music, formed a band, and started playing clubs and making records. In no time the collective was catching attention from the industry and fans alike.
These days, TEOA has become an acclaimed entity, not only in their hometown, but in other markets along the Northeast seaboard with three full length albums under their collective belt and a slew of new material about to be unleashed to the waiting world. In fact, so prolific are these guys that a series of new songs are set for release every month throughout the remainder of 2019.
Today, they are excited to share their anticipated single “Break Away”, which was recently hosted at GLIDE. It’s a breathtaking track that shows flawless songwriting. The video to the track was directed by Kirby Sybert anddepicts the triowith grace, unityand captures captivating footage that weaves their roots through Philly and the countryside.
“Break Away” was recorded at a cabin, produced by the band and mixed by the aforementioned Leonard, during a break mid-tour. “It was one of those sessions that felt like magic. A full moon. There was a pond full of peepers near the cabin and you can hear them on the tracks,” recalls Thomas. They played on wine glasses and looped stomp/clap ideas. Lots of spontaneity and experimenting. Yet, still holding true to their sound but also pushing into a bold new direction, morphing pastoral acoustic instrumentation with drum loops and, of course, the band’s signature lush harmonies. The band found their one of a kind chemistry while on the road. They met during their time as solo artists and collaborated with vocal harmonies on each other’s tracks. In their words “we lucked out, our voices just seemed to blend together naturally. Since, we’ve been burning across the countryside, touring, recording in remote locations, just having fun. It’s great being in a band with your best friends.”
If you have fallen for the band’s fated story and sound then you’re in luck! The End of America will be traveling across several selected East coast states throughout June and July. Don’t miss out if you’re in the area, as they will be delivering enchanting sets that will make your day a whole lot sweeter. Find out more on the dates below.
