Opening with a smooth house number in ‘Love Right’, this permeating entanglement of percolating acid basslines and deep, eloquent vocals instantly sets the mood for what to expect here. Feel-good vibes are the order of the day as ‘Erol’s Chocolate’ swiftly follows up with some sleek, crisp drum patterns and fervent vocals that forge an irresistible disco-house jam with some real soul about it, before ‘Just Got To Be Me’ closes out proceedings with a deep, rattling groover that sums the EP up perfectly.
Well known on the scene in their home city of London, the pair host a bi-monthly residency, Jive Talks & Friends, at Horse & Groom in Shoreditch and will be hosting stage takeovers at festivals including Gottwood and Noisily Festival this year. In addition to this, the Not For You head-honchos have a fresh edit forthcoming on Tropical Disco Records later this year, and have also recently launched their very own digital label called Cheeks – a platform solely dedicated to their own releases with remixes from close friends. The first of which comes in the form of ‘Always Has Been’ with reworks from Demi Riquisimo and Keith Lorraine.
A deep, soulful disco-house jam with some real essence to it, ‘Cheap Knock Offs EP’ will be out on 3rd June 2019 in a year which is shaping up to be Jive Talks’ most promising to date.
