INTERVIEW: Vic Sage

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Thousand”?

‘Thousand’ is a summer anthem. I really created it to be a song that you can bump with your windows down when the sun is out. I think a lot of my project ‘Broke and Happy’ was created with that direction in mind, but this one specifically.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think the inspiration behind it was the story of how it was created. It was a cool process and to get one of my favorite artists growing up on the record was surreal.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

A video would be dope! In due time hopefully.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing and recording were finished within a single morning. It was a song that really came naturally and quickly.

What was it like to work with Futuristic and what did he brought up to the table?

It was a dream come true to work with Futuristic. I think he brought a different cadence to the table that the song needed to truly cap it off and make it great from start to finish.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

I try to be my unique self despite who I am working with. If people rock with it then great and if they don’t I have no hard feelings. Music is subjective after all.

As your music keeps getting more and more momentum – does that put any pressure on you as you release a new material?

There is always pressure to release new content but I have plenty in the vault because I never truly stop working. I already have my winter releases ready to go and am looking forward to finishing up next year’s plans.

What role does Omaha play in your music?

Omaha plays a big role in this particular release. A lot of the songs mention my youth and growing up in the city. Lyrics also mention the ‘West Side’ where rap isn’t taken seriously, but I’m trying to change that.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

A lot of new material is on the way for sure. Stay tuned.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The next release is titled ‘Come Thru’ and is the final single to my project ‘Broke & Happy’ dropping June 21st.

Any plans to hit the road?

A tour is also in the works. I’ll have more info sooner than later.

What else is happening next in Vic Sage’s world?

Next is simply trying to build off this momentum I have. I definitely have goals in mind but don’t want to give away too much. Specifically, I’m hoping to have another big name feature this year at the very least. I really appreciate that opportunity for an interview though! This was dope.
