Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is an advanced hair transplant therapy in which follicular units are removed in a row from the donor area, where hair growth is dense, and hair fall is less. The donor area on the scalp is later stitched, leaving a visible linear scar there. The extracted strip of the hair follicles is dissected to obtain grafts that contain one or two follicles. These grafts are then put back into the small incisions in the recipient areas or the bald areas of the scalp in one session. Once the surgery completes, the patient can experience natural hair growth in the head.
How is the procedure performed?
The specialist first anesthetizes the scalp. He then extracts the strip of follicular units from the donor area, such as the back and sides of the head. The area from where the hair tissue was removed is sutured. It can create a scar on the scalp. But don’t worry as remaining hair can cover it easily. Later, with the help of microscopic dissection, the strips are made into separate follicular units, which are inserted into the tiny holes that are made in the bald areas of the head. At the end of the procedure, the doctor applies disinfectant on the scalp and put a bandage on the donor area for safety.
You may have to cover your head with a cap or bandana for some days to protect it from any harm or damage caused by UV rays.
