Kicking off the last day of our weekly premiere series, we are teaming up with the great up-and-comer Lexi Scatena for the release of her new single “Hopeless Romantics,” an independent track that Scatena wrote and Toronto-based producer, Vibeslow, produced. The track brings back the old-school R&B sound, while still maintaining mainstream appeal. It incorporates heavy influences from Alicia Keys and Sabrina Claudio, two artists that have played a major role on her music for a while now.
“”Hopeless Romantics” is a dive into a sound that I never knew I was capable of doing, but always loved,” Scatena says. “Working with Vibeslow really opened my eyes to a genre that embodied everything I admire musically. With modern music focusing heavily on Hip-Hop infused R&B, I wanted to do something different and incorporate old school RnB into my music, but with my own personal touch. I think that the current music industry is lacking valuable elements of old-school R&B, and I’m hoping to help bring those back.”
The song focuses on the naive, “honeymoon phase” of love. A trip to New York inspired Scatena to write the expressive lyrics that thoroughly describe this feeling. With lyrics such as “city lights and chai tea/cigarettes and smokey streets,” she references how the Big Apple is a special part of the story.
