Hi Jayli, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Never been happier, I’m on a journey that only goes up.
Can you talk to us more about your latest track ‘Who I Am’?
It’s a melodic house cover of Googoo Dolls Iris…a happy version! We changed the melody to match the style and I wanted people to feel happy and feel good listening to it! A euphoric emotion and when the drop comes in, it creates that hands in the air moment.
Did any event in particular inspire you to create this track?
Actually, this has been a year in the making. I noticed one of the most streamed songs was Goo Goo Dolls Iris! And thought it was mental no one had yet created a feel-good remake… so I thought ‘I want to be that person to do it’
I always reference tracks I love when building a track and I began this production using Avicii’s ‘Lonely Together’ and the day I began writing it, I came out the studio and we got the news Avicii had past! And I thought that was really strange as he was in my thoughts a lot when building this track. And a huge inspiration to me.
How was the recording and writing process?
I had the melody for the drop before anything else. You will always catch me on the train singing a melody into my phone! I never thought we would top line it with a cover, but then I tried different vocals and my Goo Goo Dolls idea just fit! I sung the demo first before my agent Guy introduced me to the insanely talented Ami Carmine and she wanted to collaborate so she was the missing piece of the puzzle.
What else is happening in Jayli’s world?
Well right now I’m the tropical House DJ and presenter for Hedkandi. And we are currently on tour for the 20th year anniversary and internationally giging for the year.! And in my spare time making more tracks and flying back and forth from Copenhagen where my writing partner is based writing more songs to bring you, it’s going to be an exciting year. A lot to come.
Who is your musical inspiration?
I have always had a soft spot for Kygo and how he broke through, making remakes of songs like sexually healing and I see fire. He is one of the main inspirations of the music I play and make. I also love this new artist breaking through called Lauv, he’s collaborated with people like Julia Michaels and has an incredible EP out. I want to be the cross over between house music and pop music and that’s what I’m trying to create, and I think these DJs are doing just that.
If you could perform in any venue in the world where would it be and why?
I would love to put on a show at Tomorrowland or Coachella. I come from a performance background and know we could put on a mega show for the size that this festival is. I remember going to Coachella in 2015 back stage and thought this is the ultimate dream!
How do you think the house music scene in UK compares to the rest of Europe?
I really do believe UK have an entirely different style to anywhere else in the world! I notice DJs and artists in UK are really not scared of being different, and new artists are breaking through all the time. Look at Lewis Capaldi or Billie Ellish. They have just broken through and with a completely different style! It goes to show… any style and artist can break in UK. There is room for everyone.
Does the new track mean we can expect new material in 2019?
Oh my gosh! I have tones coming out! Honestly cannot wait! 2019 is all about getting the music I have been making over the course of 3 years finally out. It takes a long time for an artist to find their groove and I never wanted to release any music until I was absolutely certain this was the right direction, I was going in. And I’m finally in that place. So please stay tuned and follow me on all social platforms to join me on this ride!
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?
Gosh I suppose my inspirations would be cool, lauv, kygo. I also love Sigala, but I would also love people like Purple Disco Machine doing remixes of my music. And songwriters like the shires making a country house record. The list is endless with the collaborations I would love to do.
