Hi Clark, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thanks for having me, and I have been great.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “GOODYEAR’S”?
Goodyear’s is a song that i wrote for my dad and my son. I have wanted to write a song like this for a while but struggled to find the proper idea to construct a lyric around. Fortunately that all changed a few months ago when I took my truck to get a new set of tires. As I was waiting to get a quote the guy at the shop asked me what kind of tires I wanted. I asked him what kind of tires were on the truck, and he replied “those were some Goodyear’s.” A switched flipped in my head and I knew that was a perfect idea for a song. I sat on my back porch later that day and wrote this song in about twenty minutes. I wanted to start the song by having my dad pass down his truck to me, and later in life I would pass that same truck to my son.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes, we begin that process next week. I have a really cool vision for the video and I think it will help bring the song to life.
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process for this song was a brand new process for us. We tracked everything in Columbus, OH except for my vocals which we tracked at my house in Darke County, OH. My producer Drew Bullock and I work perfectly together. The writing process was fairly easy. I now try to write all of my songs by myself which allows me to take my time and not rush an idea.
What role does Ohio play in your music?
I think Ohio plays a huge roll in my music. Being able to write and record where I grew up is an amazing feeling. At the end of the day, a song needs to feel authentic to the artist and I believe this helps me achieve that. GO BUCKS!
What made you want to go for a much nostalgic approach this time around?
I think I knew when I started writing Goodyear’s that it needed to lean in the nostalgic direction. I’m sure I could have turned it into an upbeat party song, but it would have lost its message and significance to me.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We have a boat load of new music in the pipeline. We are planning on releasing 10 to 12 new songs this year. The next song we will release is an upbeat song called “Girls Like Her.” I wanted a song that fans could roll their windows down, turn up and sing to their lady. An official release date hasn’t been set, but we are thinking it will be toward the end of June.
Any plans to hit the road?
This summer we will be playing a few select shows. I wanted to take a little focus off of playing out and really focus on writing and recording. The plan is to start working on getting back on the road later this fall.
