INTERVIEW: Borza

Hi B, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Pretty good thanks, taking care of family lots these days, duty calls !

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Be Amazing”?

Sure, well I’m really happy with the outcome so far. The type of reaction is something to what I was really hoping for. I have people leaving me beautiful messages telling me how this song helped them in a certain way, or just made them feel really good.. this means the world to me.

Everyone has been very supportive, from folks here in America and all the way to the UK & Germany ! The song has been added to 150 different playlists on Spotify so far, and has been streamed over 20 000 times since it’s release about a month go on April 26th. This once again tells me that deep down people are always receptive to positive vibes, and most likely wanting more..

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes, inspiriting moments. Bad news seems to be the most popular info these days, but I find it’s super important to balance our time with both vibes. Unfortunately there are many bad things going on in this world, and we can’t pretend they are not there, but there are also great ones, and I find they need to be recognized & digested to keep our balance and sanity ..

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Wonderful, easy, and cold lol ..  As you can see it was done in the winter time, here in morin-heights next to my place where it snows more than anywhere else in the region I think lol ..  My daughter Charlotte G Ghomeshi does all my visuals from pics, vids to official videos. Working with my daughter is a total gem. Living the results & the outcome of our work together is really special I find.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing is always a great process, I write when I’m feeling high emotions, usually good inspiring ones. Once I do, I feel the need to tell a friend about a realization I’ve had hoping it will make them trip too, like good food or wine.

The recording process of this song was just epic… with my main man Malcolm Burn producing the track, as well as playing bass, electric guitar & keys, I heard those flavours I was hoping for.   Jean-François Barbeau is just simply an exceptional drummer, a very low key individual with mad skills.  We recorded the bed tracks live together. I redid my vocals afterwards, and Kim Wayman also dropped by at the studio to lend her beautiful voice on some parts of the song.

What role does Quebec play in your music?

An awesome home, where I feel grounded & cozy. It also offers a very big variety of cultures, so you don’t feel so weird mixing things up in the music either 😉

How does your Persian background gets to influence your writing?

I think it’s deep roots .. I grew up in Québec nearly all my life with not many Persian friends or family present in my life. However there’a a deep love that I have for rhythm that I believe comes from my Persian roots. Also most likely the attention I put on my lyrics for good communication, must come from the love Persians have for poetry.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes for sure ! The songs are all pretty much written, I’m planning to work on the production of the record by the end of the summer, in order to release the record in early automne.

That being said, I might be releasing a 2nd single most likely this summer to keep the good vibes going.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Late september would be ideal ..

“Cocoon” would be the title of the record.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes for sure, I’m working on a tour in Italy & France, as well as the UK & hopefully Netherlands in late autumn &/or early winter.

As well as continuing doing regular shows in my home town Quebec, with some stops in Ontario for the rest of 2019.

What else is happening next in Borza’s world?

I’m doing an opening set for PATM this coming Monday the 27th in Montreal, Québec at the Verre Bouteille.

I also have a show coming up on July 18th in Val David, Québec at the Baril Roulant.

Preparing for a possible second single this summer, as well as the upcoming full length record this autumn !

Travelling, and taking time to reflect upon everything that’s gong on, to make the best decisions I can, everyday.
