Xoller Release Gorgeous Single “Loom”

A woman gently brushes her hair in an elegant, candlelit setting as we encounter the first few frames of the all-new music video for Xoller’s gorgeous single “Loom,” which is currently available everywhere that indie pop is sold and streamed. In her eyes, we see a bit of reserve; the synthesizers are reflective of the melancholy that we’re about to come face to face with in the glowing lyrics, but her execution contains little – if any – hesitance. She picks up the candelabra and starts to search the darkness around her, an angelic vocal emanating from her lips as she wanders this uncertain setting. We’re on the edge of our seats, and to some degree, in the palm of Xoller’s hand at this point. There’s nothing to come between the artist and her captivated audience, and although she has every opportunity to do so, she never careens into eccentric experimentalism amidst the ambient resonance of the instrumental groove in the background. “Loom” is a magnetizing, uncompromisingly haunting slab of surreal balladry, and it’s only one reason to check out its talented creator this season.

The video for “Loom” is as richly textured as its soundtrack is, which isn’t something that can be said for the majority of videos that I’ve reviewed over the last few months. Our focus is split between the colorful images, shot with Hollywood-quality film, and the brooding melodies that are wrapping around us like a warm blanket in the dead of winter and clinging to our souls for dear life. As striking a set of visuals as the video ultimately is, there’s never a moment where it feels like we’re watching something that was created out of a separate artistic drive from what we’re hearing in the source material. Everything is remarkably cohesive and gels together perfectly, and you could even make the argument that through the illustrative premise of this music video, we’re able to understand a deeper scope of the narrative than we would have been able to without its intriguingly multilayered structure, and moreover, its cinematic stylization. Xoller may be an underground artist through and through, but her work is anything but amateurish or lacking in aesthetical substance.

Director River Gallo deserves just as much credit as Xoller does for the realization of this fantastically intoxicating video, and I think that it could absolutely be the piece to bring its singer into the limelight of the mainstream spectrum. She’s still a very fresh face on the scene, with “Loom” serving as only her second official single, but I think that based on the amount of promise that she shows us here, there’s more than enough evidence to support the call for more music from this unquestionably gifted young woman. 2019 has been such an exciting year for artists in the underground that it’s often easy for us to overlook some of the more subtle gems that emerge from the woodwork, but there’s no use trying to ignore the skillset that Xoller has. She’s exploiting her talents for everything that they’re worth in this track, and giving us plenty of reasons to be excited for her future in this business.
