INTERVIEW: Singer-Songwriter Dylan Lloyd

Hi Dylan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing great!  Thank you so much for having me featured in your magazine!  My new song came out today and I’m super stoked about it finally being out!!!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single ‘If I Can’t Have You’?

“If I Can’t Have You” is a song about the point in which a relationship is faltering, and only one person is fighting to keep it strong.  Ultimately, people are faced with a choice…stay, or leave to make a better way of life for themselves.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My girlfriend’s best friend was having a situation with her marriage that was really impacting her life detrimentally.  The issue inspired me to write about a situation that I could universalize and make into a relatable song with everyone.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was blazing fast.  I wrote the song in 2 hours or less.  The melody was essentially in my head the moment my producer/friend MŌZ sent me his track to Topline the melody on, i knew where i wanted to go immediately.  Not too long after I received the track did I go to a great producer in Chicago named Jason Botka to engineer the vocals.  The final product ended up turning out absolutely incredible.

Any plans to hit the road?

Lots of plans in the works to do a tour in the US, but certainly wouldn’t be opposed to doing a UK tour as well!

What else is happening in Dylan’s world?

Well I’m gearing up to release another song in the fall, and preparing to work on a side album with my other producer/friend “11:20”.  Him and I have been friends and have worked together a long time.  We’re connected by a mutual friend and colleague named “Soundtrakk”…the hit producer of American Rapper Lupe Fiasco.

Who is your musical inspiration?

My musical inspiration is Michael Jackson.  All day.  Every day.

What song do you have on repeat?

I have this song by an artist named “No Rome” playing constantly lately…it’s called “Seventeen”.  It’s inspiring me to write a song in that similar type of methodology.

What do you like about the music scene in USA?

I love that right now everything feels wide open, and achievable.  No matter how hard the task looks in front of you.  It looks and feels attainable.  I believe it’s because it is.

Does the new track mean we can expect new material in 2019?

You bet it does!

Brother May will release his debut album ‘Aura Type Orange’ with Kobalt / AWAL on 21st June 2019!
