Thank you for having me, Ive been great! Just gearing up for what’s next.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Blah Blah Blah”?
“Blah blah blah”… I wrote it with my two friends, both Nashville based songwriters – Jessica Cayne and Willie Breeding. I had the title for a little while, and came into that session feeling a little sassy – a little tongue and cheek!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Oh did it! Yes, and this can really apply to anything in your life. You know when you’re always hearing “you are great,” and, “I am gonna do this,” and “that too, oh and definitely that.” Then they are all words and no actions, and you are just like okay, sure – BLAH BLAH BLAH! I was dating a guy, who the verses are literally pulled from our text messages of things that he said to me. Then one day, he was like “I can’t.” It was a long distance relationship, so it was hard. But love knows no bounds, mile markers or time. So when I got that text, I just said, “All I’m hearing is your blah blah blah.”
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes, we actual shot a very playful video, which I hope people feel when they hear the song as well. The video was shot by Cody Villalobos, and some of my best girlfriends were in the video. We really wanted to show a camaraderie and be playful. Guy or girl, we have all been told a bunch of blah blah blah in someone’s ear!
How was the recording and writing process?
This song has been recorded 4 times; God bless my management for believing in it. We wanted the sound of this song to represent my playful, sassy, bad ass, grit and glamour sides. We wanted the vocal present but the music to be swampy, and both of those elements blend perfectly.
Do you tend to feel any pressure when putting out new material or rather the opposite?
Of course; it’s always pressure laying your heart on the line. I write from the heart, whether it’s playful or heartbreaking, I still went through every situation that I’m writing and singing about. So, yes so much pressure. But you come to a point where you let go, and let God!
How would you say your Latin roots have found its way into your music?
I have recorded a few songs in Spainglish, and I am also planning to record “Blah Blah Blah” in Spanish. So that will be fun to reach those listeners. Being Latina I think it gives me a unexpected swagger; you wouldn’t think just by looking at me that I’d have Tabasco running through my veins.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material? If so, how is that coming along?
I’m hoping so! I’ve been writing my butt off. I’m at a place of excitement to make some noise with “Blah Blah Blah,” get back out on the road, reconnect with the fans that have stuck by me over the years and also make some new ones!
Any plans to hit the road?
Once this single gets rolling, the buses wheels will start as well!
What else is happening next in Leah Turner’s world?
Well hopefully world domination after “Blah Blah Blah”! But in all seriousness, I’ve been writing, not only for myself, but for other artists as well. I wrote Cody Purvis’ currently single, it’s called “Drinking Terms.” The song has had a couple million streams on Spotify and just added as “ Highway Find” on Sirius XM. I co-wrote songs on Oscar nominated Jeremy Renners’ record with him, and that should be coming out soon! It’s been fun getting out of my skin and get into others writing their stories. The future feels bright!
