INTERVIEW: STIIR

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re doing all good thanks, just rehearsing and writing non stop at the moment.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Pressure”?

It feels good the song is finally out, it’s been a fair bit of a process.  It’s had a strong start, with a lot of positive reactions especially at radio with Jack Saunders playing it every week since its release, along with premiering ‘Pressure’ and making the track ‘Next Wave’. We feel considering how bright the song is and with summer coming up, we feel its yet to make its full impact.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not really, it’s kind of like a vague meditation or observation on a relationship. I think to some extent the themes in the songs are ones that I think a lot o people will have the ability to relate to.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We are currently putting the finishing touches to it as we speak, hoping to release it before the end of the month.

How was the recording and writing process?

The song was written over a year ago, we had created several versions however never felt they were what we really wanted, as our love and hope for this song started to fade we created what feel is the version we were always working towards and what everyone is listening to now.

What role does London play in your music?

All three of us are North Londoners, so though no song is directly written about London, the fact our whole lifetime of musical experience has been based in London, its been pivotal in accommodating our development and progress.

How did you go on blending and playing with the Soul and Jazz genre? Why these two genres?

It’s not so much fusing soul and jazz together but blending them with multiple others such as indie, pop and alt rock. However soul and jazz is the core due to all the artists and bands we are inspired by within this genre.

How Al Green and Beach Boys has influence your writing?

Vocally both artist have been huge, ‘The Beach Boys’ even more so as they have been the main influence behind playing between two vocalists with no designated leads.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Pressure is 99% going to be the last single of our debut EP, which will have 3 new songs on it. It will fully paint the picture of our diverse sound and taste, definetely a couple surprises. It is more or less finished we are just waiting on a couple things to determine how soon we’ll release it.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We are going to be holding the name of the title closer to release as closely ties in with a couple visuals and songs.

Any plans to hit the road?

There are a lot of plans being developed and shows being organized but immediately so, we’re in the process of sorting out our first small national tour to coincide with the EP. Prior to that we have several shows in London including 229 on June 14th.
