Magnus Mia is an international music duo from Hong Kong and Rome, featuring Jason Magnus and Mia Schettino. They first met when they were teenagers and went on separate, and quite unusual, musical journeys that has culminated in Magnus Mia today.
Magnus grew up in Hong Kong and studied at Eton College and Harvard University after which he moved to Beijing to start the Beijing Pop Festival, one of China’s first music festivals. He has always felt like an outsider within Hong Kong’s financial environment where he worked and, last year, wrote and sang on a Spotify Top 40 hit with his previous band.
Magnus Mia’s sound blends delicate tones with electro rhythms, combining the raw emotion of Magnus’ sensitive voice and lyrics and Mia’s dreamy keyboard soundscapes and melodies. They’ve been compared to The xx for their minimalistic soft beats, Portishead for their haunting fragility, and Leonard Cohen for their poetic words.
The duo share a deep connection with their different cultural backgrounds and finding ways to integrate this within their music has become their greatest source of inspiration.
“Jubilee” is Magnus Mia’s debut single about living all of life with (and sometimes without) the companionship of love. The single is officially out tomorrow.
