As we wrapped up our premiere week, we are teaming up with Ryne Ziemba for the release of his new music video for the single “The Hook,” which was directed by E.J. O’Hara, the director of the NYC cult web series, Zhe Zhe. It also features renowned actor and theatrical clown Ed Malone as the devil in a mashup of old silent movies and 90’s videos by the band Pulp.
Partially inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy and renaissance painters, the video features Ryne Ziemba trying to play it cool while being heckled by the devil.
Zamba adds “The Hook” is a song written to express the desired non-chalance of someone in turmoil. It is an anti-love song yearning to distract from the strong feelings eating away at a person’s desire to connect. The song was arranged to pay homage to Motown-era rhythms and Marc Ribot-esqe lounge guitar. It was written, arranged and recorded in Brooklyn, NY. All parts were played by Ryne Ziemba except the drums, which were played by Dan Romans.
