Vagabond Specter is the joint brainchild of vocalist Pablo Specter and guitarist, keyboard player and producer Yuriy Smalius who met in Kiev in 2014. After a year of working together, the duo recruited bassist Egor Gavrilenko and drummer Alex Okremov to bring their musical vision to life.
Known as Ukraine’s rising stars, Vagabond Specter have released a debut album Mirrors along with and EP titled Rushing & Burning, the band have also played hundreds of gigs and festivals, even a 25 date Secret Tour throughout Ukranian towns. They have performed at Atlas Festival and Faine Misto Festival and secured support slots with Bloom Twins and Pianoboy and also as the opening act for legendary US alt-pop band Garbage.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Black Keys, The National and Wolf Parade.Summer 2018 saw Vagabond Specter team up with multiple grammy award winning producer and engineer Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, Morrissey, The Strokes) to co-produce their new album Bipolar, due for release late 2019. The album was recorded in a picturesque studio ‘La Fabrique’, located in Provence, France, with the local atmosphere and Joe Chiccarelli’s expertise and the fact that Radiohead, Foals and Morrissey had previously recorded in the same studio definitely influenced the sound of the new album.
Vagabond Spector’s latest offering is the first single from Bipolar, titled Not My War, speaking on how he came up with the idea for the song Pablo says I was fed up with a woman’s behaviour towards me, always making up excuses such as ‘I was too busy to call you back, or, I’m tired, let’s meet another day’ even though I thought she was the one, I decided to break up with her, I felt sad but also liberated, this feeling of liberation inspired me to write Not My War.
