INTERVIEW: Binky

Hi Binky, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey Guys!! I am super happy! Thank you for asking! 😀

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Drugs in My Head”?

Yes sure! What do you want to know? Fire away!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I don’t know if it was a particular event but maybe a series of events or memories. When I started to write “Drug in My Head” it took me back to my teens, with my bestest friends and the summers that we used to have. It feels almost like a lifetime ago, but they hold a great fondness in my heart! For some reason Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” just popped into my mind and how much we used to love it and of course relate it to a guy we were crazy about at the time. You watched all these chick flicks of girls fallen for a guy and how much fun they have and blah blah blah and it just inspired me to write a real summer fun girlie song that gets stuck in your head, just like “Teenage Dream” did with us.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, the official video is now out, and you can find it on YouTube. I had so much fun making this video. I knew I wanted it to be colorful and fun and Halo Jones really made it come to life. He put his own twist on it, like he does all my videos and I was really happy with the outcome!

How was the recording and writing process?

You know the song came together really quickly. I always believe that when a song just pulls together with ease it’s a winner. I knew immediately that it was going to be one of my favorite songs to date! Michael wrote a riff for the first line of the chorus and it just involved from there. At first, we weren’t sure whether we wanted to use the wording “Drug in My Head” but we just kept coming back to it, so we just rolled with it and I am so glad that we did!

What was it like to work with Michael Stockwell and how did that relationship develop?

Michael is a great guy! His actually produced all my singles to date, and I feel like we really work well together! I look forward to seeing what we create in the future.

How much did he get to influence the song?

Michael always has lots of influence on all the songs, his the master behind the production, which I think make a song.

What role does London play in your music?

London plays one of the biggest roles in my music. My sole goal is to bring a main stream country pop sound to the UK. Traditional Country will always have a place in my heart but my take on country pop music is how I express myself as an artist, and show all my fans who I really am.

How Katy Perry and Maren Morris has influence your writing?

Maren Morris is just incredible, she’s an artist that I can only dream to be like. She’s truly talented, raw and fresh. I think her and Kacey Musgraves are really paving a path for up and coming country artist like myself. I mean I love Katy Perry and I think she’s an extremely talented artist but “Drug in My Head” was the only song that she me inspired me for and I think that was down to memories.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

New material is always in the pipeline, I am currently working on an EP, which I hope you will all love as much as I do.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not just yet, I have a few ideas spiraling around, but I can be super indecisive. I am hoping towards the end of this year but who knows.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! We have a few dates in the diary already which can be found on my Spotify or all my social media. But I would also like to do a mini tour of my own towards the end of the year to coincide with my EP.

What else is happening next in Binky’s world?

Right now, I am just enjoying the release of my new single and working on new music, but I can only hope that good things are upon the arisen. But stay tuned for more new and exciting things.
