Germany’s premier Art-Pop combo, Giant Rooks are today releasing their second EP ‘Wild Stare’ to the wider world. To coincide with the release, they’re dropping the kinetic new video for their single ‘100 mg’ at the same time.
‘100mg’ is a statement of intent, a driving single with a hookladen chorus which borrows the best bits of German post-punk, American indie and British acts like Bombay Bicycle Club to create something entirely new.
The ‘Wild Stare’ EP shows why the band are amongst the most exciting newcomers in the German music scene. Following on from the critically acclaimed ‘New Estate’ EP, it shows the young band’s ability to pen beautiful, high-energy songs that lodge themselves in your brain.
They’ve come a long way from their humble beginnings. Formed in 2015 by Frederik Rabe (guitar/vocals), Finn Schwieters (guitar), Luca Göttner (bassist), Jonathan Wischniowski (keys) and Finn Thomas (drums) in their hometown of Hamm in Northern Germany. The band have already won their home countries prestigious Pop-NRW-Award, toured around Northern Europe and earned themselves slots on high profile festival stages. Currently based in Berlin, the band show no signs of slowing down and are constantly writing, recording and gigging.
The band’s reach extends beyond the borders of Germany though, with barely any music out in the UK they’re already selling out shows in London and Manchester and in 2019 will playing the likes of Liverpool Sound City, Live at Leeds and the Great Escape.
With more new music to come, 2019 will be the year Giant Rooks take flight.
