SINGLE REVIEW: What I Want by Lachi

Everyone – let’s give it up to New York one time! Woot woot! We’re so excited to be bringing you some brand new music straight from New York, where the concrete jungles have the ability to turn you into a star. We have Lachi, straight out of the big city and she’s bringing you her brand new track, “ What I Want”, which was co-written with Julian Javan.

So, where you say she gets her unique influence of music? She grew up around Upstate New York, Philly, and North Carolina; she’s had plenty of opportunity to be exposed to great music that has shaped her sound.

Let’s get a little deeper in her newest release and what she feels about it.

I tend to shy away from love and breakup themes, and float towards thought provoking themes, as in “Far” with Markus Schultz, emotive themes, like in “Living A Lie” with Styles P, kitschy themes, as in my release “Allegedly” or empowering themes as in this latest release, “What I Want (Dat Body).” The track was inspired by the new wave of women taking charge and kicking ass across the nation from politics, to entertainment, to small-town heroes. I’m the type of girl who doesn’t mind buying a cute guy at the bar a drink, and know I’m not nearly the only one. The culture of holding women to some high pin-up standard is now on the out. It’s high time for any Her to walk into a bar and declare what she wants without the peril of itch-bay stigma.”

Don’t you just love it? An artist that doesn’t go the mainstream path, but instead chooses the path less traveled. Yes, that means bringing up questions and thoughts that we all have but are too nervous to bring about.

In the words of Lachi, let’s hear it for the women taking charge and kicking ass!

Listen to “What I Want” by Lachi and you’ll not only feel empowered, you’ll feel a new breath of fresh air to life.
