Hi Aboudi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Pretty good, spending a lot of time making music lately so its been fun.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lights Off”?

Ya, so lights off started about 10 months ago honestly just as a trial and error song.  I do them a lot of time to practice on different production techniques I’m not good at.  With this one, it was just tuning live instruments.  But after everything was recorded I actually started to really enjoy the song, so one thing lead to another and here it is!

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

I always take inspiration from people and art around me without even knowing.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I would love to release a lyric video, so maybe we’ll get one in the works.

How were the recording and writing process?

Recording as great, all the musicians I worked with thankfully had access to their own recording equipment so it was easy for me to do things remotely and them just send stems over.  The writing took a while, probably about 1.5 months to finish up the lyrics to how I wanted them and find the right progressions.

What role does Canada play in your music?

Honestly, nothing really.

Do you tend to take a different approach depending on the format (videogame, music, original work)?

It depends on the project.  I have some clients who will want a specific sounding piece for certain commercials or video game.  When it comes to my own original work I just start with some chords and then work from there.

Does your upbringing influence your writing in any way?

Being from a Lebanese (Muslim) background, it has influenced my music more than I first realized.  My love for flutes and horns comes from traditional Arabic music, as well as cinematic drums.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I actually just finished up another new song that I’m holding on to for a little bit, but maybe it’ll be out sooner than expected.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing yet.

Any plans to hit the road?

I really want to focus on putting out the best music I can before I accept any tour offers.

What else is happening next in Kapre’s world?

Playing a lot of video games, working on a lot of music, and relaxing when I can.
