True to the spirit and sound they have come to be known, our latest premiere of the day comes in the form of SWELLS new infectious single “Lights Out” that serves as the perfect soundtrack for the weekend with its blend of trip-hop a la Glass Animals or Phantogram with Taylor Baker’s powerful vocals.
About the song, the band comments:
“You shouldn’t be afraid to call someone out on their bullshit, and that’s what ‘Lights Out’ is about. It has an underlying theme of revenge, but can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. This track was a little out of our comfort zone to write, because it’s darker & edgier than we normally sound, but I love the way it turned out. We worked with Mobley & Dwight Baker who co-wrote and co-produced the track with us.”
SWELLS is an Austin, TX based duo consisting of Taylor Baker and Drew Walker. Combining Taylor’s dreamy, yet powerful vocals with Drew’s intricate guitar work, the duo has solidified their electronic, indie-pop sound. Influencers such as Phantogram, Sylvan Esso, and Cautious Clay shine through on all of the tracks. They’ve played Austin City Music Festival, SXSW, Float Fest, among other notable venues around the U.S. The band recently went in the studio with Dwight Baker (Missio, The Wind & the Wave), and will be releasing a full length album soon.
