Hi McKail, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thank you. I have been wonderful. Lately, I have been focused on my release for “Align” while simultaneously working with my band, Luci.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “ALIGN”?

Yes. “Align” is a song about healing. I wrote the first half while on a spontaneous adventure to the San Bernardino Mountains. I was going through a tough time and turned to songwriting to help mend what I was going through. I ended up finishing the song after my friend, Hannah Vincent expressed her idea to film a music video for the song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Most definitely. As I was saying, I found myself in the San Bernardino Mountains. I was actually there by myself to do some self discovering. I remember the moment very clearly, I pulled my car over in a random neighborhood surrounded by nature to camp for the night, pulled out my Martin guitar, sat in the back of my car while feeling a sense of solitude and began to pick.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

The filming process and experience was incredibly easy for me. Hannah Vincent took the reigns on the video and we ended up in the desert 2 1/2 hours outside of LA. I showed up and watched the crew and dancers work their magic while I made sandwiches for everyone.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording and writing process was fairly easy. The lyrics went through a handful of revisions but the recording process was pretty smooth sailing. I co-produced the song with Danny Byrne and hired Danny Mills (keys & bass) and Zac Pannell (electric guitar) to play on the track. It was a dream made into a reality.

What was it like to work with Hannah Vincent and what did she brought up to the table?

Working with Hannah was incredible. She brought such a raw and creative vision to the table that I most definitely wouldn’t have come up with on my own. She is the writer, producer, and choreographer for the music video.

You also brought other folks to lend you a hand – did you handpick them or how did the come on board?

Everyone that came on board for the music video was handpicked by Hannah. I can’t speak for her, but I know she picked people who she trusts and respects.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Yes, of course. The song was inspired by Hannah’s personal real life experience.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, I am currently writing new material everyday. Lately, I have been more inspired to create more than ever.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

My tentative release date for the next single is this July. The title is unknown…

What other human emotions will you be diving into this new material?

I would love to dive into more into the emotion of self-doubt, because it’s something that I think all humans can relate to but don’t talk about enough.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes. I plan to hit the road in July. Maybe just a 3-4 state tour.

What else is happening next in McKail Seely’s world?

Well, I will be performing more solo shows in Los Angeles and I am currently working on new video concepts for upcoming releases. I am also proud to announce that my band, Luci will be releasing a new single called, “White Horse” in May. Can’t wait for people to hear it!
