Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, thanks for having us! Since release of our latest single, ‘Be Mine’, things have fantastic…and really busy lol

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Be Mine“?

Be Mine was written and arranged by our very own Jermaine Sanderson towards the end of 2018.  It literally started off as a voicenote on his phone and eventually morphed into what you hear today.  We wanted to release something in time for Valentine’s Day.  It’s that time of year when so many people want to be coupled up but it isn’t always straight forward.  It’s often said that guys play games but we wanted to put something out that told another story: there are still good men out there who are serious and want to settle down.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Lol you could say some events.  I’m sure we’ve all experienced being friend-zoned at one time or another.  It can be tough sometimes when as a man you get blamed or punished for what her ex did (or didn’t do).  It’s easy to get out in the same box as every other guy and not getting taken seriously.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We shot the video for the single recently (big up MRK Productionz).  Had a great time on set and can’t wait for you to see it.  Visuals out soon! Keep an eye on our socials.

How was the recording and writing process?

Recording and writing was a lot of fun! Always fun working on original material as we are already creative as a collective when doing covers or backing vocals, so when it came to this original song in particular with a concept that we loved, it was a win win!

What was it like to work with Jermaine Riley and what did he brought up to the table?

Jermaine Riley is very very underrated!  The man is a musical genius and without a doubt one of the best male R&B solo artists in the UK.  With his experience and talent, it’s been an honour to not only have his smooth vocals on the track, but also watch his process. His work ethic is crazy!  Jermaine is a perfectionist and there were times when our manager was worried he wouldn’t have his parts recorded in time for the release BUT he put his heart and soul into the track and it was worth the wait.  The track came out better than we could have imagined.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?

With collaborations it all depends on what the mood/tone of the song is to be.  Once that’s decided, we usually vibe bearing that in mind, culminating in finding a common ground with the collaborator.  There’s no ego when it comes to collaboration.  We’re always after making the song the best it can be.  Since there’s five of us in the group, it’s a very similar (if not identical) process when writing for ourselves.

How do you go on balancing the R&B with the Acapella roots?

We feel it’s been easy most of the time to balance them, as R&B has always been immersed in harmonies and melodies, and if not in vocal harmony, there would most likely be harmonic type jazz chords within the music itself.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes!!!  New music is definitely on the way.  One of the amazing thing about working with a group of five creatives, is that there are always new musical ideas emerging.  We’ve got a bit of a conveyor belt system going at the moment where the original concept is passed on to different members for development.  There are about 6 new songs we need to record AND we’ve scheduled a writing camp next month to get more original material.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We’ll definitely be releasing another single in the next couple of months in time for summer.  We don’t have a date or title for the EP just yet.  By the time we finish our writing camp next month, we should be a lot more certain as to which tracks will make it on the EP.

Any plans to hit the road?

We would absolutely love to tour!  Once we get this new music out, we’ll be looking at that more closely.  Right now, our focus is on creating content for our fans and followers to enjoy!

What else is happening next in Vade’s world?

We’ve got some international travel coming up the soon.  We can’t reveal too much yet but we have a big project on the cards for 2020.  We’ll spill the beans once it’s all confirmed.  For this year we have a few overseas festivals and performances throughout the UK.
