INTERVIEW: Late Night Revival

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really good! Thank you for having us.

Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single “XO”?

“Xo” is the first single we’ve put out since our self-titled EP in 2016, so we’re really excited to be releasing new music. It’s going to be one of many singles we release in 2019. I think the song in general feels happier than it actually is, if that makes sense? Musically it’s upbeat and drivey with happy overtones, but lyrically it tells a story of losing love. Production wise, we took a “less is more” approach compared to our last EP. We thought it was fitting for this particular song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? Neil:

I’d say “Xo” is written from the point of view of a fly on the wall. Different things around me in my life, people and places all play a role in the songs for sure, but this wasn’t one of those autobiographical songs for me. As a songwriter I often write from other peoples points of view, things they are going through, things going on in the world, etc. For me that opens up a lot more doors and makes for a more interesting starting point lyrically.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! We are releasing a video with the single on April 12th.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was pretty quick on this one. The intro drums and verse guitar came to me one night and the rest followed shortly after. I then tracked a home demo and sent it to the guys. When it came time to record in the studio we actually tracked the song twice and ended up keeping the second version. Sometimes it’s just a vibe thing, ya know? One of the coolest parts of this process for us was having the opportunity to have Mark Needham mix this song. The guy is a legend and has worked with so many of our all time favorite artists.

What role does SoCal play in your music?

I think living so close to LA gives us an opportunity to constantly be surrounded by a pretty diverse flow of music. Whether it’s bands that pass though and we check out live, or bands around the area. There’s a ton of great music out there! Plus, living so close to the beach and great weather definitely inspire us in ways for sure.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yep! We’re actually back in the studio right now recording a few more singles to be released throughout 2019. It’s going really really good. We just want to stay as busy as possible as a band.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

For now we are just releasing singles and videos until it makes sense for us to put out an EP or full length.

Would you be taking on a different direction or is this a sort of departure for the band?

I’d say “XO” is very much us, with maybe a bit less production than previous songs, but I think we strive to just make music that feels genuine and moves us, whatever we are feeling at that moment in time. The upcoming singles will have their own feel too. We always want to keep growing and pushing our own boundaries as a band.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely. We don’t have anything booked right now but yes, that is definitely in our future plans!

What else is happening next in Late Night Revival’s world?

Besides releasing more new music throughout the year, more videos and more shows, we’re really focused on putting together our team. We’ve been such a DIY band for so long, I think now we’re at a point we realize the importance of a “behind the scenes” team, so we’re really excited to be working on that part of the band.
