Rising Icelandic pop artist Hildur today releases the video for her latest single ‘1993’. Shot in New York earlier this year. Hildur says, “The video for 1993 is based on the storyline of the song, which focuses on growing up to be who you want to be – yourself. When I was a kid I dreamt of being an artist and one part of the dream was to make it in “the big world” and perform on big stages all around the world. The idea came up when I went to New York to play my first show there to shoot the video in NY – which would very fittingly be following up on that childhood dream. We mixed in moments of me as a kid and I love the thought that I could show the 5 year old me what I’m actually doing today, living her dream. “
‘1993’, released at the end of February through AntiFragile Music,is a nostalgia laden, uplifting anthem about learning to trust in oneself. It picked up lots of support on release including, The405 who premiered the song saying ” it’s difficult not to be moved by this confessional anthem.”, Song of the Day on The Line of Best Fit, Record of the Day’s Track of the Day on International Womens Day to name a few. It’s taken from Hildur’s forthcoming ‘Intuition EP’, which will be released in early summer. Speaking about the track she explains, “1993 is an autobiographical anthem of my childhood. It was when I was 5 that I realized my dream was to create, tell stories and stand on stage. As per the hook – “When I grow up I wanna be me”, it came to me as it was only recently I realized I had really became the person the 5 year old me wanted to be and was doing all the things I had dreamt of, without really giving myself the credit. This song is my journey and all the loopholes and fallbacks it took, all the disbelief but passion I experienced, all the insecurity and the creativity- which is me.So if my 5 year old self could hear one song from the future, I would want it to be this one. And I hope someone else on their journey to become themselves can relate.”
