Hi VENTS! Thanks so much for interviewing me, how exciting!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I Blew A Wish”?
For those of you that may have experienced a one-way relationship before, “I Blew A Wish” is a reminiscent story of about that and the emotional feelings of a difficult breakup. I endured a lot of internal pain and it caused me to lose my true self trying to please someone else. You have dreams and visions of love, happiness and an improved lifestyle – you WISH for them. I was hopeful that my previous relationship would provide these, however, my heart and spirit were broken as my love wasn’t returned. It was a struggle to ‘leave those regrets behind’ and took strength to do so. This song is for the listeners to know that you can overcome obstacles and heartbreak in your life, once you choose to let go and move on. As I say, ‘leave those regrets behind, pay attention to the signs’. Follow your heart and instincts, they are your genuine guide.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I wrote this song after I met my current boyfriend, who happens to be quite amazing and inspirational for me and my music. This song is a reflection of my memory captured from a previous relationship. During the pain and recovery, it hurt too badly to even write about it so it just came out when it was time to say how I felt. I really think those turn out to be the best songs. I learned that I was strong enough to make it through and I was done letting someone make me feel unworthy of love.
I love writing and have been writing poetry since I was about 13 years old before I really new how ‘songwriting’ worked. It was just in me and I had to write what I was feeling. The song was my idea and came from my heart, and I had talented co-writers help me produce and compose it in about a month. I enjoyed recording it and writing it so much as this particular song really shows the listeners a sense of who I am as an artist and I truly hope you will love the song and perhaps it may inspire you.
Known for your love for visual art – do you somehow picture either the video or the song narrative as you write them?
In this case, not really. I just write and express my feelings, so it is definitely more emotional at the beginning of the process – then we overlay the visuals into it. This process works better for me, as the songs are inspired from the heart, then backed up creatively on the video production side. The video recording process was definitely exciting, as I got to do all of my own hair, outfts, and makeup! My videographer, RC Productions, had great vision and creativity, and I hope the viewers feel the same. I do have a very creative and original sense of style which I definitely believe came through in the video.
Was it easy to touch on these dark themes?
Lol, for me a dark theme is very natural. I’ve always loved a somewhat gothic feel with my clothing as well as movies with a darker theme such as Vampires, Witches, Midievel settings).
I was a pretty depressed teenager, so I had a lot of pain which came out in my poetry during those times. It was a painful type of dark which I really love feeling in my music. As my fan base grows, they will notice the songs that I prefer to sing have a lot of minor chords or are slow ballads. Written and recorded this way, I feel that as an artist I really can capture the emotion in my voice and it connects and relays particularly well to the audience.
What role does San Diego play in your music?
I’m actually a San Diego native! I was born in Oceanside, CA and grew up in Lakeside, CA with my nine siblings. We were all raised by our grandparents and I attended “El Capitan High School.”
I moved to Pittsburgh, PA in my twenties and lived there for seven years. I returned back to San Diego about 3 years ago and I love it there!
How Celine Dion and Pink has influence your writing?
I grew up listening to all different kinds of genres. I love music and it doesn’t matter what genre it is, as long as it is great music! Celine Dion is one of my favorites, because I feel I have a similar vocal ability with my power vocals and emotions. PINK has the edge and look that is closer to who I am as an artist. As such, these two artists are quite amazing in their own way and I look up to anyone who has passion and incredible power vocals that can express ‘goose bump’ emotions through their voice. I also love the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood. On genres, I happen to LOVE Oldies, Rap, EDM, Rock, R&B and Country. My personal struggles influenced my writing but listening and singing music across all of the genres helped me express my own individualistic and artistic abilities.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Of course, I’m just getting started! I already have two more completed original songs that will be released in the near future. I have another three further along in the process, and will start on my second video soon after that. I have endless lyrics for my listeners and it’s just a matter of time before getting them composed and produced for your enjoyment!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
April 1st is the ‘official’ release date of “I Blew A Wish” but I’m telling everyone April 3rd since it’s my Birthday! Shhh, it will be our secret ????
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes, I would love to and will as the demand for my music continues to grow! I completed these first few songs in the studio with professional musicians, and now am looking for talented and dedicated individuals who want to join my vision and be part of the performances! I’ve only started as a solo artist for eight months now and feel proud of where I’m at – with three finished songs, a music video, and another three amazing songs on the way! How exciting!
