INTERVIEW: Oceans Apart

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

The band feel on top of the world at the minute, we have had such a good reaction to our music and performance with well known emo outfit as it is that we can’t believe how well things are moving for the band and the reaction to our music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Talk of the Town”?

Colourful, Dark, Dirty but with a message, you have your typical love track then you have this, envy and anger with a touch of melody. The song and the neon on the video reflects how infected you can get by somebody who is a poison to your life. The colour in the video reflects how much  you have been infected by that individual and as the track goes on its more colourful but more dark in message. On the plus there is a strong sounding rock track that shows energy and a catchy chorus. The band have enjoyed making this video and have loved the fact the BBC have got on side with the song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Past experiences in life with people whether it be in partnership in business or sometimes even in family, talk of the town as a phrase is a broad message, but also reflects how a certain mind can feel when something is going on in your life and you feel everybody is talking about it or has a position on a situation you or an individual is going through.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Cold in a barn in a farm that the bass player was working on for landscape gardening until we play download of course, we were offered the site for nothing when we knew it would suit we thought why not, The film crew involves a brother of the band anyway and the company live action media are so beautifully off the cuff it works, we turned up they briefed us on what they wanted and we went with it. Although local residents come and said we couldn’t hit the drums any longer so our drummer had two takes of magic which worked. A great company to work with, we had an alt model Jade who was the perfect fit and the lighting from Jamie Borland who is the most magically sarcastic man we have ever met that it just clicked.

How was the recording and writing process?

The drummer had the music down and the melody for the chorus, we think he was peeved about a chick he never got until he kissed the hot model on the video. The band went in and got the lyrics down other than the chorus that the drummer was strong on and ooh la la a Victoria sponge was baked.

How You Me At Six and Deaf Havana has influence your writing?

We don’t need to say much about this listen to their music, energy and passion. Would love a support slot one day.

What role does Leicester play in your music?

Everything we are proud of where we come from, Kasabian have been our stand out band, time to put a little bit of a heavier band on the map from this wonderfully talented city.

Was this meant to be a departure or rather a continuation from your previous bands?

Bit of both all of our members knew a sound knew a vision and knew where we wanted to go with the band and worked strongly together to achieve this. Past bands have been massively respected and are a part of this exciting journey we are on.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Of course our debut album fearless is available everywhere from 20th of April 2019 please give it a spin we cover topics such as ancient war, Love , Feelings, Mental health and excitement and revenge of course, This is why its called fearless.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

20th of April, Debut album fearless a mix of sounds genres and emotions.

Any plans to hit the road?

We need a strong UK/EU following first, we have been that member of the crowd that turns up to watch bands that sound massive and play out their hearts but haven’t quite built that fan base yet, we want to be different we want to be demand before we do this.

What else is happening next in Oceans Apart’s world?

Non stop writing energy and hard work along with a few jokes at the same time, BBC enjoy our music, Fans are digging us so get on board and we can travel the oceans together.
