Hi AlphaCub, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been great VENTS! Just enjoying the coming spring ya know?!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Night Heart”?
In the same style of Crocket and Tubbs myself and producer Gavin Welehan wanted to write a song that felt like night time. I wanted people to feel the same excitement they felt listening to this song as we do when we wander out into the unknown night.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
It’s about not being able to reach someone but wanting to so badly and watching that person get more and more distant until I couldn’t see them anymore. All the regular ‘white guy singer’ stuff love, heartbreak and longing. I love that shit.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yeah myself and my label fully plan on releasing a video for the song. Fully endorsed and paid for by them. ????
Why naming the record after this song in particular?
The concept of the entire album is about finding your other self. ‘Night Heart’ is sort of euphemism for a side hustle or secret passion. I’m trying to express the need to embrace that side of oneself. Maybe more than your mainstream life. The world needs more night hearts.
How was the recording and writing process?
Long. Satisfying, but so very long.
How did Black Mirror and Blade Runner get to influence the writing on this album?
I love Vangelis. My parents played his album ‘Opera Sauvage’ when I was literally in the womb. He did the soundtrack for Bladerunner his music has always spoken to me. As far as Black Mirror goes they copied me.
What were some of the relationships did you get to explore on this record?
Mostly it’s the relationship with myself and with music. This is my fifth album and I try to refine my style and stay relevant. There’s always a lot of soul searching and hopefully the vulnerability I present in my lyrics speaks to others.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
There may or may not have been bits and pieces of my last romantic relationship thrown in there but I’ll leave it up to the listener to piece that together.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m always open to it.
What else is happening next in AlphaCub’s world?
Right now at this very moment I just hosted an art show that was here in Toronto. I released my album at said art show. I’m also really in Mexican street food and Star Trek Discovery. Always making music and trying to evolve as an artist.
