Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Plans”?
I was really excited when “Plans” was released just because I felt like it was going to be a great song to connect to my audience. So far, the feedback has been great so I’m really excited to see where it goes.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
I wouldn’t say the song is inspired by a particular event, but an event occurred that made me tap more into my feelings when I wrote the song. Initially, when I heard the music for the song I had a completely different song written, but then I thought, “Why not dig a little deeper,” and then I came up with a whole different song, which was “Plans.”
The single comes off your new EP Tainted – what’s the story behind the title?
When I was younger I had this beautiful image of what love would be like, so with every relationship I went in wearing my heart on my sleeve. It felt like each relationship I had it just chipped away at how thought love would be, to the point where I felt like my idea of love had been tainted. Of course, I was dealing with people I shouldn’t have at times, so I was really putting myself out there for situations that weren’t worth it in the end.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process was pretty easy, because of how open I was to how I was feeling at the time. Once I started, I was writing as if I was talking to someone and before I knew it I had finished the whole song within like 10 minutes. The recording process was a breeze. It is honestly a really simple song, probably one of the quickest songs I have ever recorded.
How do you go on balancing all your different influences together?
It is hard because I can see myself in so many different lanes that it made it more difficult for me to find my true sound, which I am actually still working on to this day.
How have Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey has influenced your writing?
My EP doesn’t necessarily embody sounds from Whitney and Mariah, but I have other songs that do. I think their songs just help lift my spirit when I am writing more uptempo love songs.
How has your upbringing influenced your music?
I was surrounded by music growing up. I think that is where my love of music stems from. It’s been a part of me since I can remember, which brings a sense of joy when I start writing new songs.
What role does Virginia play in your music?
Not much at all. It is pretty chill here so it’s easy to get a little too relaxed. I think moving somewhere else would help spark some new music within me because every time I venture out to another state I come back more inspired but I lose my momentum.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Most of my songs are based on previous relationships or emotions I have felt, that I just put into words as a form of release.
Any plans to hit the road?
Once I have more music under my belt I definitely plan to hit the road and perform in different states.
What else is happening next in Geron’s world?
I took a short break after the EP to kind of shift gears for my next set of singles and project. I am excited to see what I come up with especially with new people around me. I’m planning to change it up and do some different things.
