INTERVIEW: Nightcars

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Call”? Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Funny story actually; I was chatting with a friend and we started sending us silly voicenotes to find out which one of us had the best “Mika falsetto”. After being idiots for a while, my friend told me “Dude, I bet you can’t make a song out of those voicenotes ” … So I created a pad with with the voicenotes and made the lead pad of the song.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Absolutely. As a matter of fact the video is in the editing process at this moment. It should be ready shortly.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was fun actually. This is the first song that we wrote and record all together in the same country. When we wrote the first EP, Cial was living in Panama, Mebs in Venezuela and I was in Madrid… So as you can imagine, it was a lot harder and tedious back then.

What role does Spain play in your music?

Spain is where we are doing our music, only that is why it already has a very important role in our career as musicians.

How Lionel Richie has influence your writing?

We all have different musical influences, but when we agreed that our sound was going to had that sweet and beautiful 80’s vibe, we all instantly thought about Lionel Richie. Actually, the name “Nightcars” came from the song “Running with the Night”. It was that set of scenes in those lyrics that submerge us in to this project.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, we have a new EP ready for you guys and we are currently working on a third one. There are a lot of good songs coming this year, we hope you guys can enjoy them as much as we do.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Before the middle of the year.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, of course, the promotion of the next singles will be accompanied by live shows.

What else is happening next in Nightcars’ world?

We are in the process of releasing singles and then the EP. At the same time, we are working on videos and recording Extended Play Vol. 3.
