Today, rising singer/songwriter Willa Amai released her debut single, “Trampled Flowers,” her first official release since signing to We Are Hear, the label/publishing/management company co-founded by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Linda Perry (P!nk, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera) and multi-platinum producer Kerry Brown (Smashing Pumpkins, Miley Cyrus). On the new song, Willa brings her magnetic vocal presence to a wistful reflection on broken hope, imbuing each line with lyrical complexity and soulful vulnerability. To listen, click HERE.
After meeting veteran songwriter/producer Linda Perry when she was 12 years old, Willa decided to pursue a career in music. She had begun writing songs at the age of 9 after a favorite teacher peaked her interest in poetry. When Willa had the opportunity to meet Perry again and play an original song for her in December 2016, Perry responded by offering to work with her in the studio. In the time since, she’s been captivating audiences with her magnetic voice, even earning praise from music icons like Dolly Parton who recently took to social media to share words of admiration for the rising star.
“When I first met Willa, she was 12 years old with giant glasses, braces and rambling with excitement,” said Linda Perry. “She played me a song she wrote and I was intrigued. Two months later she played me 6 more original songs that were so moving I was brought to tears. I feel honored to help develop this incredible talent and take part in her journey. I can’t wait for the world to experience Willa Amai”
“Trampled Flowers” will be featured on Willa’s forthcoming full-length debut album, produced by Perry. The song will be accompanied by a beautifully cinematic video directed by Mark Romanek (the esteemed filmmaker known for his work with Beyoncé, Fiona Apple, and Madonna), due out in April.
