Premios Soberano is the leading music industry awards show in the Melymel’s home country, Dominican Republic. The winning video, “IDGAF,” dropped earlier in 2018 in advance of Melymel’s album Dragon Queen and quickly became a fan favorite garnering 2.1+ million views. It debuted on HipHopDX who commented: “the Dominican rapper wanted to make an album that embraces the scorching energy of her zodiac animal as well as herself, spitting fire over the production style that’s inescapable in today’s landscape.” “IDGAF” video highlights Melymel’s smooth flow and iconic style which is mirrored artistically in a single extended shot as the rap star glides through the streets of Gualey, which per the video caption is “one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the Dominican Republic.”

Embraced by critics and fans alike, Dragon Queen continues to gain traction worldwide and viral success. Today, Vevo celebrates her continued success with intimate live sessions of the album’s standouts “IDGAF” and “Afterparty.” The videos are set against a white backdrop with Melymel in the forefront highlighting her flow and lyrical prowess as she spits her award-winning tracks live. Actress, producer, singer and rapper, Melymel has been developing her professional career since 2005. Her early influences from 2PAC and Lauryn Hill were sought after by her as a kid, as rap music was not readily available on the island mainly filled with the more popular tunes from bachata, merengue, reggae and salsa influences. Her rise in popularity is noted with her 1.8+ million Instagram followers, her 20+ million YouTube views, and her strong feminine voice that has overtaken the trap scene worldwide. All of this success alongside the new album has catapulted Melymel into the forefront of trap music, and has shown us that she, in fact, is the Dragon Queen.
