Our second rare weekend premiere of the day, Long For The Coast’s ‘Clarity’ is a deeply personal ‘coming of age’ story, acknowledging the care-free fire of youth and our transition into the complexity of adulthood: relationships, bravery and insecurity – “We dare to speak with dignity; our courage and our doubts”. All of this gets captured on the light-hearted, infectious harmonies found on both the vocals and the melodies.
Long For The Coast is the musical alias of British duo Jamie and Sophie Gould. With a combination of sincere lyrics and beautiful harmonies, they sing stories about social change, spiritual adventures, and close friends lost and found. Honest, endearing, and fiercely hopeful, LFTC believe that music is community, and they aim to promote a culture of authenticity where people can feel safe to be themselves. From cafés and festivals to book shops and bakeries, this South-West based duet will play anywhere that people might listen.
In 2013, singer-songwriter Jamie Gould received an invitation from the Elemental Stage to perform at Glastonbury Festival. It was here that he met Elemental’s resident DJ, Sophie. Somewhere between the sun, sound-systems, and cider, Jamie and Sophie fell in love and formed Long For The Coast.
Following performances at multiple and prestigious UK venues and festivals, including Glastonbury, Nozstock: The Hidden Valley, Greenbelt, and Shambala, LFTC were snapped up by creative publishing label, PAK JÖI in 2014. Working closely with PAK JÖI, they released their debut EP Push Back The Hurricane in August 2015.
LFTC have since been picked up by BBC 6 Music and praised by iconic British presenter Tom Robinson. In session with BBC Introducing, they performed singles Restless, The Pattern Maker, and The Valley from their 2017 EP, The Pattern Maker. This ambient and thought-provoking follow-up record brought further recognition to LFTC; they were selected out of many applicants to support Noisettes at esteemed Totnes Festival, Party in the Town. Later in the year, Restless made the cut for globally renowned indie-folk playlist, Relaxing Sunday Mornings by Alex Rainbird’s Music Label. Restless has since been enjoyed by over ten million listeners worldwide.
