INTERVIEW: Super8 & Tab

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We are great and really excited what 2019 has coming for us.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lungs”?

Yes. Lungs is our new single on Armind and second cut from our Past, Present & Future compilation. We came up with main synth riff already sometime ago and we thought it’s pretty cool. When we were working with song writers Izzy Warner and Sarah DeCourcy  we played this idea for them and they loved it. So we wrote and recorded those cool vocals of Izzy on top of our track.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well whole track wouldn’t have happened as it is now without ending up in studio with Izzy and Sarah. And if I recall main riff was written on tour with laptop in a hotel room.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Sure we are going to release pretty cool lyric video for it.

The single comes off your new album Past, Present & Future – what made you want to make a conceptual record?

We have long history in trance scene and so we wanted to bring little bit of that history to this day. Mix it up with current music and of course introduce where we are going with out music.

Was this always meant to be initial approach for this record or it rather evolve into this?

Past, Present Future concept came together from audiences need. Everytime we are on the road there’s fans asking for Helsinki Scorchin’ , Alba or some other classics from us. Sometimes we are able to play some of them sometimes not. So we thought let’s starts a concept to help our job to fit in those old tracks to our sets and let’s get some of them remixed too. We have so much new music coming out but we love to play old tracks too and this gives us nice opportunity to do so.

How was the recording and writing process?

Well as it is compilation there is also tracks from other artists too, but we did write and remix lot of new music for this compilation aswell. Past, Present & Future is there to represent how our sets would sound  when we tour with the album. Actual recording and writing process didnt differ at all from what we use to as we are in that process constantly. We are little crazy like that. We just keep writing new material all the time.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Of course you want to leave room for other artist to bring in his/her influence and not hi-jack the whole process. So in that way yes.

With releases from different labels that promote different genres – how did you go on balancing your distinctive influences and did you get to go for a new direction?

This is a perfect platform to have all kind of genres no matter if the tracks is old or new. Finding good balance comes from DJ experience and we have few years of that!

What role does Finland play in your music?

While we are proud to be from Finland when we write music we don’t really think that too much. But of course in Finnish music traditionally there’s lot of minor chords so that you can definitely find from our music.

What aspect of theses time tenses did you get to explore on this record?

All aspects past, present and future are covered equally. Of course there’s time limits for how many tracks we can use on compilation.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Lot of inspiration for music usually comes from movies and movie soundtracks. There’s lot of emotional scores where to get influenced from. Secondary there’s so much good music out there if you just explore which is good source for inspiration.

Any plans to hit the road?

Oh yes. We are playing huge ASOT900 party with Armin Van Buuren in Madrid. We are going to hit Singapore Zouk and of course we are doing open to close 6 hour set in The Gallery at Ministry Of Sound which will be big big fun. We have also US and Canada dates lined up. In Canada we will do Dreamstate Festival.

What else is happening next in Super8 & Tab’s world?

Besides all said above we waiting Formula1 season to begin and cheer for our country fellas Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas.
