INTERVIEW: Lone Deer Laredo

Hi folks, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been very good, thank you! Very excited about our debut album.

Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single “Golden Harvest”?

It is one of the key songs for our duo project, and one of the songs that tied us together in the first place. There is a ghost girl in the story who cannot be reached by the storyteller due to Golden Harvest… It is also a song about the dreams that can only be incarnated on the silver screen.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It is very hard to pick one certain event… I would say it is all that endless longing inside both of us that lead us to write a song like this.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yeah, definitely there will be video really soon!

The single comes off your new self-titled album. How was the recording and writing process?

It was a real adventure. We met for the first time couple of years ago in a bar in Helsinki. During the following hours we had a band, first song and a strong vision about it all. We keep writing songs all the time. This is the first selection of those. You’ll get six more and then it is done. It really is a telepathic connection between us.

You brought other special producers into the record – did you handpick them? How did they come on board?

The recording process itself was magical at Alex the Great Studios in Nashville with wonderful Brad Jones as a producer. Like a dream yeah… We had a mutual friend who recommended him to us. So we contacted him and he liked our demos and after that everything just fell into right place.

What did they bring to the table?

He brought in not only his intelligence and multitalented skills as producer but also a really lovely character and culturally enlightened person…We gave Brad our wishlist of arrangements for the record and oh boy he got some cool people on it!: Chris Carmichael on strings and Jim Hoke on recorder and flute (he has played on Macca’s new album!) just to mention few.

How much does Fashion influence the band?

I guess it all lives peacefully and in harmony side by side. We are very visual band. It all is a kind of roadtrip romanticism. And yeah Paola is very famous for her fashion brand Ivana Helsinki and music has had an important place also in Ivana’s style ever since the early days.

Would you call this a departure from your previous projects?

We wouldn’t call it departure. It is more like arrival of something that had to happen for us sooner or later.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Life on the road, vintage malls, animal rights, love, God and on going endless mysteries of life.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely. We have a US tour planned already, just have to figure out the exact dates first.

What else is happening next in Lone Deer Laredo’s world?

Gigging and vol. 2/7 already in the back of our little heads.
