Singer/songwriter Mark Ambuter pulled out all the stops and penned one of his most sharply designed songs to date in “Love is Everywhere,” a soaring celebration of love presented amongst addictive pop hooks that are sure to stay with you this winter. There’s been no stopping the momentum that Ambuter has been benefiting from professionally as of late, and in “Love is Everywhere,” he cuts loose and dishes out a momentous vocal performance alongside some sterling string play that ranks among the best I’ve heard in 2019 so far. Simply put, he borrows a little from the past and mixes it for a modern, discriminating generation of pop fans superbly here.
“Love is Everywhere” is a really exotic song compositionally, and flirts with multiple genres and styles throughout its nearly five minutes of running time. Sitars and wind instruments line the introduction of the track with a wistful, enduring texture that seems to linger as we descend into the first stanza, and later, the rollicking chorus. On paper, this track is completely all over the place, but under the steady direction of Mark Ambuter, the hybridity that is present seamlessly transmits its brooding color unto us and never becomes fragmented in the slightest.
The bassline here is incredibly understated, but it isn’t completely absent from the mix. Juxtaposed beside the subtle bass parts is the acoustic guitar track, which is shimmering, larger than life, and quintessential to the delivery of Ambuter’s smoky vocal. The drums march to a black and white beat in the background, but their contribution doesn’t feel limited in comparison to what we see out of the strings. Every component of “Love is Everywhere” receives the VIP treatment behind the soundboard, and despite its pomp and grandeur, we never feel like Ambuter is piling too much on his plate for one sitting in this song.
From the moment that we enter the track, the vocals are at the epicenter of everything going on in this single. They’re remarkably crisp in the master mix, and within their neat placement between the guitars, they warm up the track like a roaring campfire in the wilderness. The earthy nuances in the music are highlighted by the way that Ambuter attacks his verses, leaving just enough space for us to appreciate the elaborate nature of the instrumentation while also maintaining his proper position in the center of the spotlight. He’s got one of the most potent voices in pop right now, and “Love is Everywhere” magnificently does it justice.
No matter what your taste in music consists of, you can’t beat the harmonies that Mark Ambuter’s latest single has to behold, and what’s more, the magic doesn’t stop there. From the velvety vocals to the gilded guitar parts, the galloping percussion to the brittle basslines, Ambuter has us firmly engaged throughout every second of play, and although he doesn’t have the media-presence that comes with a major label contract, he’s been raising some pretty important eyebrows with the release of this song. I can definitely see why critics beyond even my own circle are talking about this guy as much as they are, and after hearing “Love is Everywhere,” you will too.
