INTERVIEW: RubyRockette

Hi Ruby, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey VENTS! Thanks for having me.I’ve been really good, thanks!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “On My One”?

Yeah, definitely! On my one is my first song I’m putting out. It has a really fun trap beat, it’s a feel-good record that I want people to feel really confident and bad ass listening to.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

Not so much one event, but an accumulation of my history of making and releasing music. So many life obstacles have happened, so it felt really good to be able to push past the things that have happened and go on and still go after what I love!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, definitely! I’m actually shooting it this week! I’m a dancer by trade so I’m really excited to perform in front of the camera. I feel like it will bring the whole project full circle.

How was the recording and writing process?

Ha! It was interesting to say the least, I’m pretty sure I cried LOL. After taking a break from making music it’s took a second to match up or better yet syncing the recording and writing process. I actually recorded this song like three times and mixed and mastered it like three times as well lol. I was going crazy I guess ha.

What role does NYC play in your music?

Hmmm. I can’t say but NYC plays a huge role in my music. But one thing I really admire about the New York City music scene is the overwhelming support of New York artist from the people of New York.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?

I think my upbringing has influence my writing a lot because I’ve always been a big reader I literally read books on end and I’d crush a  novel in a day, so that made me want to write a lot at an early age.

Does your ballerina background influence your music in any way?

Yeah, I think it does. Whenever I make music I always think about performing it in mind. So that will change, or better yet effect the way I record the song and the flows I choose to use. For example, you could rap really fast, but that may not be conducive to performing the song on stage. So, it would be better to modify the song in a holistic approach if that makes any sense lol.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Yeah, I love writing for other people! I feel really free. I definitely want to write songs for others in the future. Because I’m a very private person, I’m still in the process of fully breaking through and feeling free in my own music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes!! I lowkey have singles and supporting songs up until October. I can’t wait to share! It’s coming along really well. I’m getting my rap songs out of the way first and then I really want to delve into R&B and pop songs. Singing takes a whole lot more discipline than rapping does (crisp voice = no coffee, teas, dairy,  wtf LOL) so I’ll get that out the way first.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I hope to release my next single end of March/early April.

Any plans to hit the road?

Bruh!! I would love to hit the road! I’d love to perform that’s my comfort zone.

What else is happening next in RubyRockette’s world?

I’m still looking to be the best artist I can possibly be, staying in best physical shape, writing and recording my music, and building the RubyRockette brand! Non-music wise,

I’m prepping the next collection for my swimwear line. I’m also prepping another online clothing brand that has yet to launch! I can’t wait wait to share!
